Gillian Welch and David Rawlings make my skin crawl. Upper crust privilege masquerading as hillbilly mountain trash. Their first CD was the first and only album or CD I've ever thrown in the garbage - and it only took me about 30 minutes to do it.

When I cross over
I will shout and sing
I will know my savior
By the mark where the nails have been
When heard Welch sing these lyrics I wanted to vomit.

I'll play along.

Coldplay is just the worst. Chris Martin seems to be totally devoid of any emotion other than some sort of lethargic, wistful melancholy. The lyrics are uninspired clichés, inarticulate sad-parting-song nonsense, and he sings them with such incredible unmusical lameness that I can't help wonder why he even bothered in the first place.

A few days until the end, nothing new to read on here. So, I'll go with ZZ Top and KISS.

Good choices - I'm getting my picks ready for the free NCAA pool, I'm going to work Max Thomsen in there - his beat down of what's-his-name from Missouri got my attention.

I agee. Is Chris related to Myles?

We met Gillian and David before their first album came out back in the early 90's. They are nice people and I like their music as well. Their musical style is southern folk/gospel. I respect their craft but don't blame anyone who disagrees.

I love Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, although I think Gillian is better without David than as a duo.

Pretty much everyone on country fm radio. Practically have destroyed the genre. Ex: Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, etc. It's fine if you like that music, but can we stop pretending its country?

She is definitely the talent in that duo, but we've seen him improve and grow as a musician over the years, imo.

We spent a week in NC at Merle Fest back in '95. The first few days it was pretty much a few fans and all of the musicians strolling/slow rolling the property. That was a week I'll not soon forget. Gillian and David were gracious and seemed grateful for the opportunity to perform their music in front of a ton of people. That was the first time we saw them perform, but not the last.

These are actual real people? Never heard of either one of them. Guess I'm not in the loop!

They are singer/song writers in the style of traditional Appalacian music. Not what I would call mainstream in any sense or even well known.

However, there were a few years in Des Moines that Stacey Earle, Iris Demint, Gillian and David, Del McCoury, Leon Redbone, etc, came to town to play….. Back in the day.
