If that is a true cross-section of the demographics of America, may god have mercy on our souls. I went yesterday and felt like a true 1%er, not just a HROT 1%er. Do these people really save up all year to go to an amusement park in DSM? I cant fathom this being the highlight of their year and their summer vacation.

Yes. That is how some people live. It certainly was when I grew up. Now I don't have that situation anymore but it's ok that some people do that

When I was little, I loved going there for a day. But we really didn't spend anything other than the cost of a ticket and maybe a couple of the carnival games. Hell, IIRC, you could (and maybe still can) pack your lunch and bring it with you.

A real treat was driving a few hours south to Worlds of Fun.

It's always been a pretty decent regional park. I know for people in the metro, kids can buy an entire summer pass for like $150. I know they had a big fire a few years ago, not sure how it is now. Have not been there in years. To be fair, the last time we went to Disney World, it was no different. Just more Euro trash. I wonder if the addition of Bass Pro Shops nearby has brought in a new element to A land.

You know it, I know it, and the American people know it.
There are only two destinations for families with children:
Disneyland and Disneyworld. By the grace of God I took
my family to California and then Florida to see these
meccas of amusement. There was a 5 year interval between
the 2 visits.

"What are you majoring in?"

"Russian literature and Slavic languages."

"Oh, wow. That's pretty interesting. What career track is that?"

"Cabbie, hot dog vendor, marijuana delivery guy. The world is my oyster."

There is a vast, and I mean vast, difference between the Disney and Adventureland crowds. While Disney has a sprinkling of trash mixed in, Adventureland has a few days a year where a sprinkling of non trash is present but still significantly outnumbered by mouth breathing 2 legged hogs.
Not good.
