Affolter's huge threes, but no foul at the end

Here's the photo of Syd's last drive. I think most objective observers would say that's a pretty obvious foul that, of course, was not called:

Why doesn't the other team get to build character and suck it up after losing on a late foul call? Why are the Hawkeyes always the ones? Give the other teams a chance . . . UCLA, Ohio State . . . I'm confident they could use a little character building.

Anyway, in the wake of this heartbreaking loss, don't forget that Affolter hit TWO ginormous threes in the waning moments to bring Iowa back from a 5-point deficit to a one-point lead. And she also forced a traveling violation to give Iowa the ball and that lead with 48.8 to play. That she and Iowa were denied a well-deserved win because, once again, the game was called one way on the Ohio State end--two game-deciding FTs--and the other way on the Iowa end--no call, no game-deciding FTs is a travesty.

Oh, well . . . that's basketball, right? LOL

Anyway, Iowa, playing its third game in three days, gave #13 OSU a winning effort, even if the officials decided otherwise. Yes, I know Iowa could have done one of dozens of things better and still won. But so could have OSU, but they didn't. They got the benefit of game-winning FTs. Iowa, as usual, did not.

And the thing is, Affolter was fouled like that several times on the same drive, and not one foul was called.

But at least I'm sure the officiating will be better in the NCAA Tournament, just like it was in the national title games the last two years . . .

Syd played great. They all looked a little shaky the first 4 minutes but deserved to win. Sorry for McCabe for going cold, I think she missed 4 or 5 treys in the 4th qtr and each one woulda coulda been the winner. A tough deal for her but she will come back and she hit the dagger the nite before that started the 4th qtr rout.

Is this common in Iowa women games or all of women’s game?
To complain about officials if your team doesn’t win?
It’s non stop these days.
Obviously we lost and we are commenting on officiating. Officiating in the women’s game is absolutely abysmal. One doesn’t have to lead to the other. We’ve won games when the officiating has been bad and we’ve lost games when it’s been bad. It’s just much harder to find games—either way—that are called well. Hell, even decent would be an improvement.

Hey, bud. If you checked, we complained about the officials even more in Iowa's two BTT WINS! You could look it up. Horseshit officiating is the standard, win or lose, although sometimes I'll admit it's more like bullshit.

Again, look at the pictures from the UCLA game as well as this one, then tell me that's OK. The complaining is nonstop because the officials' incompetence is nonstop, and we've got the gawd damn evidence to prove it. How do you like that? LOL

I suppose, sort of like the ucla player tripped our player by extending her right leg out as far as she could causing an opportunity for Iowa to win the game . I just heard a color commentator, maybe Lobo, happened to mention a few minutes ago if a player extends her feet beyond her body, it's a trip and a foul.

It'll be better if the Big10 refs aren't working in the NCAA Tournament.

To me it's especially bad when it's in the last minute or two when every play is do it die. Curious to watch ucla and Ohio State beat Iowa at the end from the free throw line. The illegal pick vs UCLA and this play decided the outcome of both games. I'm fine with letting them play but why is I called on one end and not the other?

Exactly. That should have been called an illegal screen/tripping by the UCLA player. Its basically the same thing that happened last year in the final 4 against UConn only instead it was her leg (as Holly Rowe said was outside her shoulders). Thats a foul by rule, no matter how much the Husky fans want to bitch, thats an illegal screen. So is sticking your foot out, and that was obviously done on purpose. That type of rule is there not only for fairness, but for player safety. Lucy could have bee injured tripping over her foot like that.

She played pretty well....she should not be the one inbounding the ball on a made shot when they are facing a press. Jan finally figured that out and had Lucy inbound and get the ball right back. Syd stood in one spot and didn't move and was a bit paralyzed.
