Would like to see Shannon get the start. SLB complete mystery but if I had to pick I’d put Jacobs and use Evans like we did last year. Maybe put Waggoner at RE use Evans in sub package and start Jacobs... use all their skill sets

Evans is a rushend specialist, not SLB(OLB). OLB as Iowa calls it will probably be Nieman or Jacobs. I like Campbell as MLB

I think Waggoner will start, and DJ Johnson may well start at corner. Go Hawks !

If everyone is healthy the DL will be ( after a game or 2 so let’s say by game 3 for safe keeps,
DE Golston
DT Nixon
DT Waggoner
DE Lee

Evans on 3rd and long with Waggoner on the bench and Golston to the interior. Schulte, VanV, Shannon, etc.etc. providing depth.
Logan Jones, Van Ness, and Deonte Craig will also provide depth. Hopefully all the freshmen DL can redshirt but get reps under the 4 game limit.

Waggoner could start, I agree. DJ I would think there’d need to be an injury ahead of him.

DE Golston
DT Nixon
DT Waggoner
DE Lee

So, on clear passing downs:

LDE: ??? / Jacobs?
LT: Golston
RT: Waggoner
RDE: Evans

Vanvalkenburg was playing a lot at the end of the season, getting more reps than Waggoner.

He'll start.

Schulte played a lot as well, including getting starts over Nixon.

Both those guys are likely starters.

Unless Lee or Shannon are simply far superior I don't see them starting. AJ didn't start over Hesse if you recall.

Van V is a DE correct? Waggs is at DT. So, therefore they are not competing for the same spot. Also, I was at the NW game last year and was watching the DL during warm ups. Van V looks pretty small to me. I don't see him starting.

He's 6'4" 270 pounds, or bigger than Hesse.

Colbert and Niemann will be the 2 LBs since Belton will be on the field as the Cash 80% of the time. Waggoner at DE over ZVV if he doesn't move inside. Moss and Brents in a dog fight for Ojemudia's corner spot.

Glad Belton got a bunch of meaningful experience last year, even if there were some growing pains, for just this reason.

I think Evans is more likely to push VanValkenburg for the starting DE spot - although I think that there will be plenty of rotation anyhow.

I see Waggoner as potentially being a bit of a Swiss-army defensive-lineman ... I could see him playing on both the inside and the outside (maybe a bit like Sam Brincks).

Lee is a guy who I see has being a little bit of an x-factor - he too is a guy who I could see as being able to play on the inside and out. My impression is that he has some "wiggle" ... might be a Karl Klug sort of guy on the interior!

I think that Brents and Moss will be locked in a neck-and-neck battle for the CB spot opposite Hankins.

Also, while I anticipate that Belton will play the CASH spot ... I think that Phil also really liked him at safety too. If DJ Johnson can step up ... it's possible that he could potentially play the CASH spot and Belton could play safety.

Taajhir McCall wasn’t a high rated recruit but man, his film could convince you he’s a four star. I think he makes noise this fall. Waggoner will start at DT, Shulte really struggles against top competition.

McCall was a little bit of a "late bloomer" in high school. He reminds me a bit of Kenny Iwebema and Drew Ott. Hopefully he can enjoy better health than both of those guys ... and develop into a productive DE for us!

Has the coaching staff talked about moving Waggoner inside to DT? If he's pushing 280, he might have the size for it now.
It's my understanding that Waggoner will move inside this year. But I could be wrong on that. If so you may be right on the money CP84
They were going to give him a look inside during spring practice, but didn't get the opportunity obviously.

Think Evans needs to stay at DE as we will surely be rotating quite a bit anyways.

My main concern is getting DJ Johnson, Hankins, Brents, Belton, Merriwewather and even Moss on the field in the best places to help us. That is a lot of talent and some of it will be sitting on the bench. Im giving Hankins and Koerner the two starting spots also.

I would rather see Doyle move to DE than Campbell. Campbell has better instincts at LB

Campbell did have great insticts and he seems to be quicker (including moving laterally) than Doyle. Maybe DL would be a better move for him? The kid can obviously play.

This! Agree 100%
