Ahmad Wagner headed to Kentucky

I think it’s a smart choice the less film for the NFL the better. Have the NFL pay you to learn how to play instead of being in college for an additional year.

Thanks a heap Ahmad. You took up a scholarship on the B-ball team that could have gone to a decent contributor. Now you go to Kentucky instead of playing at Iowa. We have no one else to contribute toward a 10 win seas. I will blame u for the emotional hardship I experience through this turn of events. SMH!

Watch him blow up after a huge season in 2019 and go first round...this board will IM-freaking-PLODE!

No, it won't. I think most of us realize that what we have at TE is already better than he is as of now. We don't need that distraction quite frankly. I'm pretty comfortable wishing him well and actually hoping he does well.

I too wish him well and think it's what is best for everyone but to play devils advocate. What if he goes to KY and blows up as a WR?

Ps. Wonder where our local KY fan is on this one, that guy was supposed to tell me what he though of my rib recipe.

You know it is people like you who ruins this board. Ahmad is a darn good kid who gave it all he had, I wish him nothing but the best. GOOD LUCK Ahmad. Thanks.....

Agreed. Wagner is an outstanding kid and athlete. Made the choice that he felt was best for him. His parents/family will have just 150 miles to go to see him play in Lexington, compared to 500 miles from Wagner's hometown to Iowa City. Best of luck to him.

You sir Suck as a Human Being.
Best of luck Ahmad.

Kentucky showed the most interest in him for football out of high school, so not particularly surprising that'd be his eventual choice. Hope it works out for him.

Most of the time I don't care one way or another when a player leaves. I sorta rooted against Ruddock at Michigan but that was as much about rooting against Michigan/Harbaugh. On this one, I hope Wagner does great. I think he gave it good effort in basketball and probably maxed out whatever he was going to accomplish on the court. I don't really watch Kentucky football but if they do something other than having their WRs run 40 yard windsprints and/or block, then I totally get why he picked to go there.

Or maybe he had a coach who did a crap job developing him into a contributor....

I am fairly certain Harbinger was kidding. At least I hope so.

I wish nothing the best for Ahmad. You will always be a hawkeye in my mind. I will be pulling for him.

True, and most likely he talked to KF and the staff during spring ball and they told him he had a long hill to climb to play D1 football, especially if he was going to be a TE where Iowa is stacked.

You. I see what you did there you clever little fella.

This guy wouldn't see the court at Kentucky, at 6'7 and 235 lbs I wonder how fast he is. Football speed equates differently than basketball, strength may also be an issue, I would say I am cautiously optimistic about him transitioning to either TE (due to the blocking), or WR (due to the speed issues).

Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s why he’s switching sports

Good luck to Ahmad, and thankful for all his contributions to Iowa!

It would have been fun to continue speculating how good he could be, but in all honest he hasn’t played ball in years. Can’t see him passing any of our WR or TE’s. He would have been situational only.

To be fair....half the crap on here is negative, so hard to tell. And sarcasm doesn't convey in a text medium without appropriate cues. I was torn on whether he was being negative or trying to be smart. Still am.

Don't ever turn on the news. Seriously, it will kill you. I'm being serious.

Maybe there is a rule if you are transferring to a school to play a different sport you don't have to sit out. Which would make sense. But in reality, he is going to be sitting out a year anywhere he goes in that he has a lot of catching up to do.

My personal view on that hypothetical is that he probably would benefit from a different system and / or coaching staff that emphasizes offensive creativity more than Iowa's does. And that's entirely possible.
