Injured? I know he's only a freshmen, but his skill level was greatly missing last night. I would have rather had Perkins and Ulis playing together last night then Connor and Bohannan who were absolutely dog crap....

Connor should have had about 7 assists to 0 turnovers if players were hitting wide open shots he was feeding them. He played his game offensively last night, though his defense was meh. I also wish he would look to go up strong on the drive more frequently than settling for those fadeaways he takes when he gets caught under the hoop

edit: since it appeared Fran was set on not putting Toussaint in until we needed his defense at the end, I too wish Fran would have given Ulis a look instead of riding with Bohannon the entire second half

It's unfortunate when you have a 6'5" connor M. on the floor and he doesn't drive to the hoop or get to the line much. Well shit, he hardly shoots either. It hurts the team.

One of the most one-dimensional players I've ever seen.

He’s great at passing players open, but when said players can’t hit those open shots, his effect on the floor is basically nullified. He’s athletic/strong enough that he should be able to get better looks at the rim than he does

That is the problem with Cmac...you don't have to guard him and his claim to fame is someone else has to make a shot. It is hard to find shot makers. JBO had and off game and Fredrick is out. Throwing the pass to an open Keegan, Pmac, JoeT, Nunge is unfortunately not going to result in a high percentage of assisted 3-ball

Ulis most definitely should have played minutes for JBo and Cmac to upgrade the defense. Indiana is not a good offensive team and they shot 49% overall and 47% from 3pt line.

It doesn't matter if he practices his shot or not, when he's on the floor he doesn't look to shoot unless he's going for a layup. Fran has the cuffs on him and probably the same for Perkins. Neither one looks to shoot even if their open.
Don't want to make Connor look bad...

His handles were weak tonight. The frosh all seem to be less then solid with the ball in their hands. We’ve been spoiled by decent turnover efforts and J Bo joined the turnover team tonight. They’ll get better with time, but they scare me against a Huggins type defense.

At 9:09 you tell me who makes contact then who sticks a hip out as he’s under control then who doesn’t stay vertical and swats down and smokes him.. you’re wrong here and it’s not even close

He was straight up through the contact, and as Ulis was falling Johnson blocked the ball when he came down with his arm. Good no call.

Not sure how to post the replay from YTTV. I just watched it again. Good no call. Ulis went into a shot blocker who stood his ground, you aren't going to get that call.
Answer the questions. Who initiatives contact at 9:09? Who sticks a hip out on the drive? I’ll take your point on being relatively straight up even though I disagree and then that swat down at the end!? And again.. Sherman was pissed

There are multiple reasons to criticize Fran, but I have never heard anyone say that he discourages someone from shooting the basketball. If you have a good shot, Fran wants them to take it:

Again, Ulis initiated contact. That's not really debatable. He does come down with the arm at the end, but he gets the ball. Sherman looked a little miffed, but Fran and the others didn't seem to have any problem.

Handles Weak? I thought he looked pretty good. Not his best game of course, but I thought he got fouled on the drive. I do think its got to be tough coming in for these little 2-3 minute stretches.

I missed most of the first half but Ahron did not play well tonight in what I saw of him. There was no display of good handles. He was shaky, almost travelled once and then attempted that layup against the guy 6 inches taller. Ahron and Tony basically look like true freshmen who make some good plays and some not so good plays. I don't know if Tony will ever be much of a scorer but he looks like linebacker and he's willing to play some bulldog defense.

Tony will be a 15 ppg scorer by his junior year

Brilliant...You must be a Illni fan. Do you ask for your point guards not to shoot?

The “worst call” part wasn’t about Johnson at the end, it was about the mugging he got all the way up the court on the dribble. I could argue the Johnson call either way based on other calls made last night, but the fact that Ulis was fouled almost literally every step all the way up the court was pathetic.

they all looked shaky at times. JBo 4 turnovers. Ulis zero. JoeT 1. Connor 1.....Fran brought in CMAC specifically to bring the the ball up vs pressure when Rutgers was getting close and CMAC turned it over.

If Fran had wanted Ulis to look comfortable vs a pretty good defensive guards like Rutgers, he should have given Ulis more Pt this season to groom him to be ready. When you sit from the start of the game, don't know when you might play, and then suddenly get thrust into running show vs pressure with maybe 10-15 minutes of B1G crunch time experience all season, I think it was understandable that Ulis didn't look his most confident

Agreed but I think we need to commit to Ulis for the rest of season to have hopes of making a run. Give him 8 minutes a half.

Also agree Tony will be a scorer. He was a pretty big scorer in college. Fran obviously preaches to the true fresh if you turn it over or take a dumb shot you are out. Tony has a nice step back jumper. Both Ulis and Tony are doing what coach wants right now. I do wish Fran loosened the cuffs a little.

I would like to see at least one of Keegan, JoeT, Ulis, Perkins, Nunge on the floor almost all the time. They’re all better defenders than most. It wouldn’t take a ton of tweaking to make that happen. I’m not calling for all of these guys to be playing 20+ minutes (though Keegan probably should be and has been trending that way). Just adjust the rotations a bit more. Give JBo a couple more brief breaks, cut Connor’s minutes by 5. I think it could make a big difference on the defensive end, plus it probably leaves a few guys a bit fresher at the end of the game if you need late offense.

I thought the run across the baseline was a travel when I first saw it, too, but I watched a replay later and it wasn't.
I watched it multiple times and in slow motion....not sure how it’s not traveling. Can you define the travel rule that would allow the two steps (minimum) with the second step/foot leaving the floor while the ball was still in his hand? I tried reading the rules and viewing the video.... but don’t claim to know what I’m talking about.
