Iowa hosts Air Force on Tuesday & Wednesday night at 6:05pm. According to Hawkeye Sports military will get in for free and Tuesday is $2 Tuesday. Tickets are $2 and so is popcorn.

Iowa will start Calvin Mathews on Tuesday and TBA on Wednesday. I don't know a lot about Air Force, but it appears their offense has some pop if you go by statistics.

Weather looks to great both days/nights. It might be a little cool toward end game though. Get out and support the Hawkeyes!

Iowa beats Air Force 9-7 after being down 6-0 thru most of the game. It looked like Iowa wasn't going to be able to get a hit with runners in scoring position, but they opened the flood gates in a couple innings and got the W. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night at 6pm.

Calvin Mathews threw four innings allowing two runs and had four K's. Shane Ritter threw four innings and gave up four runs, he had six K's and gets credited with the W. Jared Mandel threw a third of an inning but got into trouble, so Josh Martsching threw the final 2/3 and earned the save.

Iowa scored five runs in the 6th and four in the 7th. They were down 6-0 headed into the 6th and looked like they couldn't get a hit with runners in scoring position. Joel Booker was 1-3 with 2 RBIs, Tyler Peyton was 3-5 with an RBI, four others also had RBI's and a hit. The offense spread the wealth and worked some key walks during the come back.

Iowa beats Air Force 22-2 to get the two game midweek sweep. Iowa scored in all but the 5th inning and had a solid pitching night as well.

-Mason McCoy hit for the cycle, was 5-7 overall with 6 RBIs
-Daniel Aaron Moriel was 3-5 with 6 RBIs
-Nick Roscetti was 1-6 with 3 RBIs
-John Barrett was 2-2 with 2 RBIs
-Joel Booker was 2-5 with 1 RBI

Cole McDonald threw four scoreless innings allowing two hits and had five strikeouts. Sam Lizarraga pitches 1 2/3 scoreless, Nick Allgeyer pitched 1 1/3 scoreless, and Luke Vandermaten threw 1 scoreless. Kyle Wade got his first action pitching as a Hawkeye and threw one inning allowing three hits and two runs.

Lizarraga got pulled from the game due to an injury, no idea on the extent or seriousness.

It is very nice to see this Iowa offense get going, if they can hit like this from here on out they could be dangerous.

Iowa travels to Indiana this weekend for a HUGE series.

Can we say the bats are alive now? :)

Iowa's RPI sits at 91 currently after the two wins. If Iowa could've even mustered a single win against Missouri State and Dallas Baptist and not had the two bad loses to Omaha and Seton Hall, they would be in position for an at-large bid with a strong finish. However, it is would've-could've-should've and they have to make the B1G tournament and win it to have any shot at this point.

It sounds as if Air Force ran out of pitching with its 6th game in 5 days. But still encouraging to jump on a team in a big way when they have the advantage.

If Iowa can just get to 4-5 runs per game against B1G pitching they will be in business.

Agreed. They pretty much doomed themselves with the sweeps to Missouri State and Dallas Baptist. The remaining non-con games won't help Iowa. K-State is having a bad year. Iowa plays the Wildcats at the end of April. Bradley is also just at 135.

Team needs to make it to the B1G tourney and hope for a magical weekend.

Getting a bid is totally within reach. Finish in the top 3-4 in the regular season in the Big, win a couple in Omaha and I believe we would be in. The Big's profile has improved.

Of course there is a lot of work to do with what I listed above but we are coming on. The O is picking up, Coach certainly did not want to make the rotation change since Cal has gone through so much for the team, but he made the change he had to. I really am starting to like this team. This weekend is important, really need 2 of 3 to keep moving up. Michigan has sticks but we have them here. I'm unsure of MSU, the last time I looked they really had not played anyone.
