Akrum Wadley (Titans practice)

Titan's stud CB is their return man so if they want to protect him then Akrum should have a spot as their return guy.

Titans got a steal. I have to think assuming health, he will assume:
- KO & Return Duties
- 3rd down RB duties. Needs to be able to block a 260 # LB. If he can do that you have to think he will get most of the 3rd down touches, especial 3rd down +4 yards.

One of the five Titans fans here in Iowa, so I actually follow this pretty closely. Leading up to training camp, there was a lot of optimism that Akrum would supplant Fluellen as the #3 RB. The brakes have been pumped on that a bit, as thus far, he has not been able to get past taking #4 reps. However, there still seems to be a good chance of this happening. Conventional wisdom is currently that they will carry 4 RB, but things can change.

Regarding the idea of him becoming the featured 3rd down back, I just don't see that happening unless Dion Lewis gets hurt or significantly under performs. Lewis is very good out of the backfield and has a lot more experience. In addition to that, people don't realize how good Derrick Henry's hands are. Put those things together, and barring injury, I only see spot duty on offense.

Punt return game, with Adoree' Jackson being very good, I just don't see it. His better chance to show off his skills could come in the kick return game (still likely as secondary returner behind Jackson, unless they want to lighten Jackson's load). If he shines there, then maybe he sees a few more plays on offense.

Wadley is the perfect back to compliment Marcus Mariota. I expect he’ll at least be a third down back if not starting by the end of the year. Wadley’s skill set is absolutely one that tends to translate in the NFL. No better case can be made than the Ohio State game - all of the players who start on Ohio State’s defense will get drafted - and Wadley was ole’ing them left and right - once he did it to 5 players on a single play in that game. I get that Dion Lewis has great vision and has played solidly, and Henry has the power/muscle - but Wadley has the shiftiness and accelleration which is what is most important at that level.

You may be right Mike. Lots of unknowns with a new coach and OC. I'd love to be wrong, but the only way I see primary 3rd down back by the end of the year is injury to Lewis. If that happens (and I don't think he has ever played a full season), I completely expect Wadley to move into the #2 back spot. As it stands, I would be excited if he can get 3-4 touches a game. If he gets that many, I would feel good about his chances to earn more time. Ironically, the thing that people are excited about with Wadley, is that the current #3 has a propensity to put the ball on the ground.

Reading your post, I wonder why they made the pick in the first place. Where the Steelers def has a need for Wadley. Still pissed about that.

I don't know if Arkum will make the Titans roster but I do believe he will end up on somebody's roster and the same for Niemann. Ben's is having a great camp so far in KC.

Titans didn't make the pick. Akrum was UDFA and chose to got to Nashville, knowing that they were pretty set. Kudos to him. I have no idea what kind of offers he had on the table. I'm glad that they have him though and I know most Titans fans are excited about it also.

My bad....I keep forgetting that detail. How in the hell was he not drafted!?
