This is an indictment on both coaches and the direction of their programs.

Ticket sales for Saturday’s Alabama vs. Wisconsin game in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, are slow, reports NFL Media’s Gil Brandt.

Only “around” 40,000 tickets were sold as of Tuesday, with “very few” purchased by Wisconsin fans, Brandt said. AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, seats 85,000 spectators.

who wants to travel to Dallas for a vacation including a college football game? No me...and I imagine many Wisconsin fans feel the same way. Play the game in a desirable location like Denver, San Diego, New York, Miami, Phoenix, New Orleans etc. and ticket sales would be much better I'd imagine.

Wisconsin didn't schedule this game in Dallas to get great attendance figures (though that would be nice). You schedule it to get TV eyeballs and to have a marquee matchup with another program that doesn't require a home-and-home arrangement.

One other factor in poor Wisconsin attendance is that they just played a pre-season game in Houston last year against LSU. A lot of folks probably can't do that every year (or don't want to).

and people spend a lot of money on the final four and people want to go to wi vs lsu at lambeau next year

Phoenix??? In early September??? Your imagination got a little wild. It's not nice in Phoenix until mid October when the 100s finally break. They'd sell even fewer tickets in Phx than they will in Dallas.

yeah, the heat was pretty bad when we were down there for the Iowa games against ASU and UA, but at least there were nice golf courses and the house we rented had a pool, so it was a decent destination for an away game. Dallas has no appeal whatsoever.

We only go to north Texas for final fours. Like said before, UW has done some traveling lately. Lambeau will be ridiculous next year.

The game is for TV money not ticket sales. Neither team wanted the other to have home field advantage

Not sure I would pay to go watch Iowa get blasted by Alabama ... On average, tickets, hotel, flight ... you are looking at about $1,000 ... Many fans will say, no thank you ... Give me my big screen and my smartphone and I will enjoy the game from home or from a bar ...

Then don't schedule it. These neutral site games are embarrassing, the North Carolina vs. South Carolina game IN CHARLOTTE had a nearly entirely empty upper bowl.

On a related note, how bad has Oklahoma State gotten to where they have to play AT Central Michigan?

Simply put, it's next to impossible to get SEC teams and B10 teams to agree to home and homes. It can happen, but it is very rare. $ are a modern reason, but I think the integration of black players played a part in that pre-1970.

Iowa has to my knowledge never once played an SEC home and home non-conference game, and only one non-conference game ever (neutral field in the 80's with Tennessee).

Every time I see a scheduling thread where there's "Iowa has to play SEC teams" makes me want to puke. It takes two to tango.

I live in Dallas and looked into going. But the CHEAPEST tickets are $95! Not that I don't have $95 to spend on Saturday-night entertainment, but c'mon! Out of principal I'm not going to spend $95 for nosebleed seats to a regular season game.

What did they expect? Neutral field. With all games televised etc, attendance is down in general. Ticket prices are going to have to come down to get people back.

I will give wisky fans a 100% free pass on this one.

In the last five years that have had 3 Rose Bowls, a game in Houston last year with a team with a lot more hype. An Outback Bowl.

Then throw in a couple Final Fours.

Plus they are going to get woodsheded.
