Going into the 2019 season, the most hyped OL Iowa had (even above Tristan Wirfs) was Jackson. He battled injuries and by his own admission woefully underperformed. While there was speculation that he might declare for the NFL, he had good advisers who made sure he came back to Iowa for his senior year.

Once again this year, Jackson was the most hyped OL on the team, with consensus pre-season 1st team all-Big 10 honors. The only media talking point more over played and less interesting than Petrus liking Grateful Dead music was Jackson going on a diet.

After 5 games, Jackson is not even one of Iowa's top 2 tackles. Against a weak Penn State team, he gave up back to back sack/QB hurries in a single series, and he was flagged for multiple holding penalties after getting man handled. His run blocking wasn't much better, as he allowed Goodson to get drilled in the backfield RB got drilled in the backfield several times. Pro football focus graded him out as Iowa's the worst OL this week, behind a bunch of underclassmen. In spite of this, the tv announcers tout him as a high NFL draft prospect every week based on pre-season expectations.

So what gives with Jackson? He looks skinny out there. Is he hurt? Is it his footwork? Did he lose strength with the new diet and no Doyle?

His Run blocking has been excellent this year, but his pass blocking...whoa....alot of whiffs. No way hes a pro left tackle, they will eat him alive. And remember Wirfs played on the right side because Jackson didn't do well in practice when they tried him over there.

You are wrong. Alaric is playing very well and we are running very effectively to the left this year. He will play for a long time in the NFL. GO HAWKS !

Yikes, not sure what you're watching. Run blocking is his weakness. His pass blocking grades have been great until yesterday.

For the season PFF has his pass blocking at 72.3 and his run blocking at 68.3.

Very well is an exaggeration. His grades are middle of the road right now. Linderbaum and the guards are the highest graded now. Jackson is currently our lowest graded starter. His grade is still respectable but not 1st or 2nd round worthy now.

If he wants to be a tackle in the NFL, It would be in his best interest to start eating meat again. He’s undersized and is starting to look more like a tight end than a tackle. He’s missed on blocks before, everyone has, but yesterday he was flat out trucked a few times.

Can you please explain how eating meat would make him a better football player?

It’s a free country. He can eat whatever he prefers. I know a lot of people who don’t like to eat dead animals and many don’t like to eat dead plants. You do you.

I'm not a vegan or someone who is a fan of it, but a person doesn't need meat to be strong. I would assume the staff is making sure he's getting proper nutrition/macros, right?

The USA had a vegan weightlifter on their olympic team during the last olympics (and was the only American qualifier), which isn't the same thing as being an o-lineman, but shows meat isn't needed to be strong.

Wasn't he against this guy most of the game?

He went against him a good amount of the time PSU flipped their guys a good amount. Jayson Oweh was the other guy he went against and he will be a first round draft pick this next draft. PSU by far has the best DEs we will face all year. Jackson has been very good all year and much better than last year.

4.33 40....uhhh what?

Just say you have no idea what you are talking about Clarinda and move on. Being a Vegan has zero effect on how he is playing. WTF.

Eat a regular diet young man. You look weak and over matched

Ouch! Iowa takes over at our own 10 yrd line in the first quarter. First play, handoff to Goodson, Jackson absolutely whiffs on the block and Goodson gets absolutely destroyed. That’s a first round draft pick?? He’s lucky Goodson didn’t get a concussion.
