Talk about a great young man. My rule about having Kakert take your likes if you have a negative post still applies. He will probably accomplish more than 99% of those who post on here. An AA wrestler while simultaneously prepping for medical school. I don't know what field of medicine he is going to, but I have no doubt he will be very successful.

Lets hear your favorite Meyer wrestling match. Did anyone else find themselves happy when the Minnesota punk kept slapping Alex? After about the 3rd slap I told my superbowl crowd that Alex is going to put it on this guy. I think he wrestles better when guys get a little dirty with him. My favorite match was probably the Brunson pin. Carver was very loud after that match. Alex has all the tools to make a deep run at nationals. He is similar to Topher in that he just needs to push the pace and let the fur fly. I don't think there has ever been a match that Alex wasn't in better shape than his opponent. He needs to come out hard for the whole 7 minutes. Get yourself the prize in March Mr. Meyer. Thank you very much for your 5 years in the black and gold.

I don't know if I have a favorite Alex Meyer match, but just a few comments. It is a rare kid that can finish 4 or even 5 years in the Iowa wrestling room. Rarer still to be a kid that wrestles varsity for the Iowa Hawkeyes(something a boatload of IA High School wrestlers dream of, but never even come close to achieving). NOW, what it takes, to do the first two and then on top of that to be an All American for the U of Iowa Hawkeyes? It's something that I would guess none of us on this board can comprehend what it takes to get there. I know I can't.

I for one congratulate Alex on his career at Iowa and thank him for the lifetime of work that it took to get him here. I am pulling for him to finish strong and get to that podium yet again to be a 2-time all American!!!

GO HAWKS!!

A very special thanks to Alex Meyer.

He is one of the main reasons I don't have to beg and convince my girlfriend to come to Hawkeyes duals and watch them on the interweb with me.
Like most people, she thought wrestling was kinda boring, but I knew just a little sprinkle of carver magic would change her mind.
That carver magic came in the form of a late comeback pin from an unranked backup Alex Meyer over a ranked Brunson. She has been hooked ever since, and she can't wait for St Louis next month!
So, thanks Alex! Now go let it fly in St Louis. Some more Hawkeye magic there, who knows, maybe that will convince her to become a booster.

Alex is one of my fav Hawks. Probably the best memory I have of Alex was at the Nationsl Duals in Carver 2 years ago. Nick Moore had just gotten beat by the Cornell guy, who acted like a clown. As he ran behind the Hawks bench, Alex got in his way to let him know his displeasure. Alex has a huge brass pair and always wrestles tough.

BTW, if we happen to have a former All American on this board, congrats to you and I am sure you know what it took to get there! :)

Alex is one tough Hawkeye when he lets it all hang out..If he opens up his offense in first period he could place very high. I'm looking forward to watching and seeing him go for it all in St. Louis..Thanks for all you have done and wish you the best in your medical position.

I have allotta respect for the guy. Just a guess, but he looks like he would have to cut a lot of weight...takes discipline and mental toughness. He's a maddeningly slow starter in lots of matches but always it makes it interesting in the 3rd period. Haven't looked lately, but his bio used to say he's in Fellowship of Christian Athletes...big thumbs up to that

I have lots of memories of Alex starting from Pee Wee wrestling days. Even before he committed to Iowa he was a man of few words. He was always one of the hardest workers and was a coaches dream. He'd do whatever was asked of him and do it well. Alex excelled in school and on the mat. Success didn't come easy, he didn't qualify for state his freshman year, but his hard work paid off with a state title his senior year. After arriving at Iowa he brought his passion for hunting and sewing with him. Alex, I'm still waiting for a rabbit skin cap with your signature on it! ;-)

Alex is a natural 184 pounder but true to his passion and commitment he cut to 174 to fill in for Evans when injured and performed well. His early exploits, like the Brunson match, gave us fans a lot of hope and high expectations for the future. When he finally earned a permanent spot in the lineup he never lacked for exciting matches. His success was as hard to predict as the stock market but I always felt he would somehow pull it out. Many times he did.

Our expectations were high for him at NCAA last year. I was so disappointed when he lost the first match last year and then so excited when he beat the higher seeded wrestlers on the back side. How does that happen? He gave us plenty to cheer about and plenty to whine about. I expect his over the top work ethic and desire to win will serve him well as we head to the post season. I'll tell you now Alex, our expectations are sky high for you again! I can't wait to cheer you on in St. Louis.

Alex Meyer is one tough hombre. I know he must be making quite a pull to 174 because i've seen him in person a few times at opens and he is a large, large 174. There is probably a reason why he is a notoriously slow starter and gets stronger as the match wears on. He's a man of few words, and theres a reason the coaching staff loves Meyer, he does all the things on the mat and off the mat right.

Some of my favorite Alex Meyer moments:

1. His pin over Brunson, Carver erupted after that one, and it was a memorable moment I'm sure we'll all remember about Alex Meyer.

2. His comeback against Jackson last year in CHA. Gave up 3 first period TD's, classic Meyer, and then came back to win over the eventual 5th place AA.

3. Welcoming Mark Hall to CHA. God that was sweet. I thought we were toast when I saw Hall's shirt had come off and he stepped out onto the mat, things were already looking grim in the dual and Meyer came through in probably one of the best dual wins of his career. The eruption by the fans during that was amazing.

4. His backside runs at all the midlands. Meyer never quite made it to the top of the podium at Midlands, he did have one finals appearance, but what I remember the most is what a backside warrior he is. He would lose a questionable match on the front side, and then bring straight heat to the consolations and always get back to the 3rd place match. Tom Brands always says that is what defines you as a man, when you get beat and have to come back, Meyer is a man.

5. In line with my last moment, his amazing run at NCAAs last year. Sure we would have liked to have seen him beat Wolf of Lehigh in the first round in a super sloppy match. But that NCAA run will define Meyer for me. Lose to an unseeded wrestler, then come back to win like 3 or 4 straight over all opponents ranked higher than you, including 2 All Americans. That is just straight gaht dayum impressive.

Heres to giving us another memorable run at B1Gs and NCAAs this year. We all know you can get on the podium again, how high is up to you Mr. Meyer. Give em hell!

If you think of his NCAA tourney as 1 big match we really shouldn't be surprised. He got down early and stormed back in true Meyer fashion. :D
