Last nights debacle reignited the move or stay with KF debate. We all know Hayden probably stayed tad too long. Seen it with others like Paterno and Bowden. But thinking of Hayden end compare that to his 2 best OCs they knew when it was time to leave and put program over their self interest. Programs that they built from the ground that were in bad places.

Barry had the AD job lined and left the program in healthy place for big bert and others after. Snyder bit different coach after him struggled few season and he came back and kind of tried to pull a Kirk/Brian move and lobby to get his son the job, ST coach who was actually good at his job. But AD didn’t give in and Snyder graciously passed the torch to Klieman who he knew was a fantastic coach whose done a great job. I fear Kirk era will end more like Joepa and Hayden over Alvarez and Snyder.

Part of what will happen is an 8-4 vs a 6-6 record this year along with does the UI want to have a different type of offensive football team. The fans and the big money donors want wins but maybe they want glitzy wins by scoring a lot of points with a highly successful passing game.

What ever happens we need a step up in recruiting and we have the facilites and the money for it.

Iowa is a top 25 job.

the fact that a lot of people seem to be so doom & gloom with life after Kirk is hilarious, yes before Hayden came in it was a dumpster fire but 40 plus years of winning football/tradition makes it unlikely that it would ever get to pre FRY days.

Iowa football is a national brand that pays top $$$$ for coaches, has the facilities & alumni to make it even better in the future.

Recruiting will have to be the #1 priority & with the new system its put up or shut up time, Hawks can pay for players just like everyone else minus Ohio State Michigan & top SEC schools. NOW LETS GO WIN A GOD DAMN CHAMPIONSHIP OR AT LEAST GET TO THE PLAYOFF!

It seems most people don't know, or have forgotten, that Hayden Fry was battling cancer at the end of his career. Maybe he stayed too long, but the bigger issue was cancer came too soon. And no one knew Hayden had cancer at the time. That news only came out after he stepped aside.

Fry built Iowa out of the ashes of two decades of futility. He never apologized for being Iowa. He never called Iowa a "developmental program." Instead, he took the job and said he intended to entertain the fans and break up the Big Two of Ohio State and Michigan, one of which had won the Big Ten title for nine years in row. And in only his third season, he led the Hawkeyes to the Big Ten title and their first Rose Bowl appearance since 1959.

And he said he was coming to Iowa City to build a program, not just a team. He marketed the Hawkeyes like no one before him. He was the impetus behind the Tiger Hawk, one of the most recognizable logos in all of college sports. He asked the Steelers, the cream of the NFL at the time, if he could copy their uniforms.

KF literally owes everything he has to Hayden Fry, the guy who integrated the Southwest Conference when he was at SMU, and the guy who turned Iowa into a national name in college football. Those of you too young to have lived through or to know much about the Fry era might want to do a little homework. It would be both informative and entertaining.

Barry Alvarez was one of top college coaches of all-time. Great coach, was a terrific DC at Notre Dame. Most wanted him the HC and not Granny Holtz. Alvarez at ND would had been a dynasty. Snyder did what Fry did. Scheduled for success, easy, and brought in some ? types to compete.
