A guy who was part of my "inner circle" of friends just passed away, which is the second one this year and third one over the last few years. He went by the handle SnakeInTheGrass and at some point in his life had become an ultra right winger. A couple of times he got insulted so badly here he left; finally for good quite a few years ago. It was a shame because while he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer he was funny as hell.

We really only hung out regularly in high school; but it's amazing how many stories you can accumulate in such a small timeframe when you're young. I still tell stories from over fifty years ago from our exploits; many of which involve nearly dying from stupidity. Now my group is passing away because we're just getting old. I will have a drink for him tonight. Anyone who was in the Navy, you might have for him as well.

/csb. Just a bit melancholy.

Sorry Art. Glad you could stay friends despite obvious political differences. Life is too short for that to come between people as much as it does.

Sorry to hear that.

I remember Snake...RIP in peace

Art, I am so sorry to hear this. He was lucky to have you as long as he did. It is never long enough though.

God bless.

I believe it was from the movie "The Longest Day" where Richard Burton has a line something like "the worst thing about being one of the few is we keep becoming...fewer".

There were 4 in my childhood group. Lots of good times. Lost one to cancer, lost another to Covid.

Remember the good times, always.

I made a very difficult decision after yesterday's game when I saw for the first time Iowa players kneeling for our flag. As I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago I was in the Navy for 26 years and I did those years so everyone has the right to express their feelings. I also have the right to find it disgusting. I consider it parallel to ripping the flag, burning the flag, etc. I have gone to Hawk games for well over 50 years and spent probably 10s of thousands of dollars for events or gear. So my decision is I am done. I turned off the TV yesterday and will not come back unless we get a new coach who says enough of this crap. I know some on here will say negative things about this decision. I respect your decision if you want to continue to support the team but also respect mine for deciding to cut loose.

Just run the ball and get the hell out of here. Great defense. Embarrassing offense.

Watching this offense is pure agony.

I don't want to see his fat ass back in there. BF you're a disgrace.

Actually it looks like he got his feelings hurt for the kneeling in 2020 and "quit the team" but followed along as recently as Jan 2024.

Anyways, RIP in Peace to them

Remember him. He was a good time.

It's wild how years can go by and you grow further and further apart from someone, but when you have those core "growing up" memories with someone, they always feel like they're still a great, close friend no matter what.

Sorry to hear that, OP.

sorry OP

how old?

67

I lost one close friend at 63, and another earlier this year at 66. Both heart attacks. The 66-year old was in very good shape. Think Michael Keaton but more muscular. But bad genes, as his dad died in his 60’s.
