SIAP, but what did everyone who attended the game today think of the new metal detectors?
When we went in at about 10:45, the scanners at gate M (SE corner) all had red flashing LED's on the top. Which I assumed meant that somebody had a no-no in their pocket. However it was such a cluster Fck that the fans just kept flowing in. No stopping to see why the scanners were showing what I assumed was a warning. And at that time, nobody was even scanning game tickets (electronic or otherwise). My wife had gone in at 10:30 and said the ticket scanners were having problems, most likely due to the bright sunlight. She didn't recall anyone being stopped by the metal detectors, or if they had warning lights flashing. My guess is that if they were, nobody noticed.

We had about the same experience. My daughter got the red light, and the worker just said , “Oh, it was probably your keys” without even looking at what was in her bag.

Same. No one was monitoring the metal detectors
It was a total fustercluck today at the gates. We stood in a huge throng of people right outside the gate and didn't move for 10 minutes. We ended up missing the kickoff because they were funneling everyone through ONE entrance instead of the several ticket entrances at each gate. People were just walking in through the metal detectors and didn't even have their ticket scanned. People were so pissed that the security just let everyone go. It was like they were expecting only about 100 people to show up. Unreal.

I assumed it would be a mess and went in very early to avoid the likely bottleneck. Glad they have implemented this system and hopefully they get the issues resolved soon.

Has the reason for the metal detectors been stated?

Are they worried about people sneaking in cans of beer, potential terrorism using bombs or other weapons, or something else?

Total clusterf mess today at the gates. Not enough ticket scanners and lanes seemed to be more the problem at the NE corner I went through around 10:40. Metal detectors were a joke, nobody cared. Usually go through the SE corner gate, but could see from a distance an even larger jammed mess there. Just barely made kickoff.

She brought a knife in and stabbed people didn't she?

I was afraid of the cluster****. Saw the metal detectors 5 yrs ago at Minnesota and missed 1/2 a quarter. But was hopeful for Iowa. Well I shouldn't have been.

I think a different company in charge of it may have played into this also.

So are the detectors there "for safety" but the real reason is "Don't bring your beers in here, you need to spend your dollars on beers from the concession!"?

I think it is due diligence concerning some wacko with a gun etc. Way lots of wackos out there now

Not a shock with todays day and ages - come out to NJ… you will find these detectors at the local subway with armed security

We got caught up in the accident near West Branch. We park at the downtown ramp. The cambus wasn’t running so we walked from downtown. Got to the game midway through the second quarter. Walked straight in. No one checked our tickets or bags. And after the game, no one knew where to catch the cambus. A very nice campus officer gave us a ride to the ramp.

What's the point of the metal detector if it flashes red but nobody gets stopped lol.
The point is to get you comfortable with them. They won’t be unmanned the whole season. When they are manned and the bottleneck is even worse, it will be your fault because you knew they were there and should have allowed more time to get to your seat.

I can't believe it has taken this long for someone to take notice of the great Monty Python Flying Circus reference. Well done my friend, well done!

It wasn’t that great. And I’m pretty sure everyone over the age 40 got the reference but didn’t care.

There are more multiple news articles about the detectors. Basically it's to eliminate the bag searches that took place. Obviously some things need to be ironed out.

Have to admit my wife and I did not see them or were aware of them. No pics

Fire Barta.
Oh wait…

Why have things like this if you aren't going to use them correctly or actually use them. Either use them or don't. Good thing they put a couple of old ladies through a few times to make sure they weren't the ones that would cause problems, LOL. Terrible job by whoever initiated this idea and then failed to have any type of follow through.

I experienced none of the issues stated here. No funneling. No backlog. Everyone’s ticket scanned. Smooth as silk.
