Jeremy Fears Jr. and Brock Harding.
These two were on a collision course in the Illinois HS tournament when both were seniors. Unfortunately Joliet West went out early and the game never happened.
Harding ended up the Illinois POY even though Fears was ranked the #1 recruit in the state and 27th in the nation by ESPN.

This will be their first meeting in college as Fears missed most of his freshman year, the result of gun violence.

Just wondering if one or either will be out to prove something.

Prove what exactly?

How bad has Illinois high school basketball become if Harding was player of the year?
Pretty unprecedented for downstate player to get it.
It was a weak year but fears was legit and should have gotten it.
I suspect fears will have his way with Brock on Thursday nite.
Go Hawks...but gonna probably be ugly.

Jeremy Fears Jr. averaging 7 points, 2 rebounds a game. 40.4 field goal percentage. Harding 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds a game. 44.5 field goal percentage. There, Brock wins.

Good Lord, who wrote this, the guy who penned the ABC Wide World of Sports voice-over?

It'll be over five minutes in. Brock Harding as Illinois POTY just tells everyone it was a down year for Illinois HS b-ball talent.

This season has been disappointing. I think we can all agree on that.

Can we also collectively agree to stop sh*tting on Harding and other Iowa players.

It is no player's fault that they accepted a scholarship offer from Iowa. All of us would have enthusiastically done the same thing. All these guys have committed and worked hard for the program. Yes, some are getting paid a lot. Yes, that means that it's fair to criticize them when warranted.

But there's no need to constantly denigrate players. The Harding discussion has been had ad nauseum here. Nobody is changing anyone's mind at this point.

And even more importantly, who cares?!?

Iowa is gonna get embarrassed on Senior Night that night, who really cares if Brock "gets his" vs this other kid??
Don’t disagree with you at all, but at this point a ‘Harding v. JFJ’ marquee matchup card might just give me a reason to tune in….😉

I'm tired of BOTH arguments. But...having grown up in Illinois through the years of Levi Cobb, Mark Aguirre, Isaiah Thomas, Terry Commings, Teddy Grubbs, Russell Cross, the Quincy Crew, et. al., I'm a little amused by the thought of Brock Harding on the same court as ANY of those guys.

Aha, a Quincy alum, butt hurt by senior Brock and Owen beating your beloved Blue Devils in 2022/23 season. I feel your pain. lol
Here's hoping your Blue Devil team can make it to state and do the Big 6 conference proud minus the pitch fork guy.

Whether Iowa ever gets on the "high end of the conference when it comes to resources" it's time for a coaching change. 15 years with practically nothing to show for it is enough. I've seen the highs and I've seen the lows in Iowa's men's basketball over the years, but this version despite being entertaining is as stale as a month old loaf of bread and predictable as well. It's time for a change.

Thanks for the sage advice Izzo, but this is not a 'nice guy' contest. Exactly where are the alleged 85 to 90% of fans who want him to return? You pulled that out of ur a$$. The only tank is in the 2nd half of games. Lastly, 'Be careful what you wish for'....seriously?

This is validation that Fran is indeed separating from IA - is it not?
Who knows, the players are playing hard for him, but the end results are predictable as the 4 seasons.
Fran came to Iowa and never tried to connect with the students or fan base. Eliminated the summer gym league, the Black and Gold season gym open house, the Saturday football day open house scrimmages, the weekly Hawkeye TV Fran McCaffery basketball show. I'm sure there's more, but continuing to finish in the middle of the pack year after year is getting old.
IT'S TIME FOR A REBUTE!!!!

Fran gets this. That's why he decided to mix it up a little and finish in the bottom 3 this year.

But are you satisfied?!! Noooooooo.

Fans like you are impossible to please. Bitch bitch bitch about EVERYTHING!

Go root for Duke.

From nowhere near Quincy. Is your reading comprehension that bad? Why can't you just admit Harding was and is overrated?
