Should've measured on that second down pass. Thought he had it. Playcalling after it was classic ISU though.
That was a head scratcher. 3rd and inches in 4 down territory. That call alone should get him canned.after watching the 3rd and 1 call by ISU, I understand why Mangino was on a different page than Rhoads
Coaches sent in the play thinking it was first down, since it should have been. Changed the call when they saw the spot, but Lanning didn't catch the change. That was a head scratcher. 3rd and inches in 4 down territory. That call alone should get him canned.

And you are right, that's why Iowa State is Iowa State.
Got screwed by the zebras on several other occasions. The key time may have been on OSU's last scoring drive. They're in their own territory, third-and-eleven, throw an incomplete pass. VERY late flag, false start, gave them another chance and they picked up the first down, went on to score the game winner.
However........despite the screwing, that happened because ISU let them pick up third-and-sixteen, one of nearly a dozen -- I am not exaggerating -- times OSU converted third-and-long situations. Also, Lanning played well but missed half a dozen wide open receivers, including one sure touchdown.
Finally murderers row is over. It's amazing that 6 of the 10 teams we've played were unbeaten when we played them. That doesn't mean much early in the season, but of the early opponents Iowa is still unbeaten and Toledo stayed unbeaten until last week. Oklahoma was not one of those unbeaten teams when we played, but based on how those teams played Iowa State, Oklahoma was the toughest opponent on the day we played them. This may be the toughest schedule in Iowa State history, but we also let a win or two get away. Yesterday Warren getting hurt in the 3rd quarter really hurt. He never ran the ball again, except for that failed 4th down run.Coaches sent in the play thinking it was first down, since it should have been. That overturn the refs did on the td catch was the difference. Refs cost them this one. Sad that officiating is that bad to overturn a td catch on replay. Funny that replay can screw you now.
