And the hits just keep on coming…

Interesting tidbit, Cancro was headed to UNC to play football but bought a sub shop instead.

I guess it worked out ok.

I live in NJ and still have not been to Jersey Mike's. As a teenager, I worked at Big Mike's in Iowa City. Big Mike was a cousin of the founder of Jimmy John's and pretty much copied his cousin's business. For those that have been to Jersey Mike's, is it similar to Jimmy John's?

It is rare that I look for a sandwich shop, but when I do, I look for firehouse these days.
I ate at Firehouse once. I took one bite and then noticed mold on the bottom side of the bread. I took it back and they remade it for me. But that was enough that I probably won’t be back anytime soon.

The thing that bothered me the most is that I know bread doesn’t mold the same day you bake it. So their claim that they bake their bread fresh every day is clearly false.

Yeah, that’s gross. I didn’t even know they claimed to bake their bread fresh. I think their toppings taste superior.

This feels like a place that asks for a tip at the register. I avoid places like that.

I ate there once, it’s a sandwich BFD.

Now SubCity if you are in Iowa, that’s worth stopping.

I thought they were decent the first time or two I ate there several years ago. After the last time or two I’d already written them off as another subway.

Never had Firehouse but they're opening a location by me soon. I did have Potbelly's for the first time a few months ago, & that was a damn good sammie

Jersey Mike's is the best of the chains IMO. To expensive for what it is, if you care about such things. Can't imagine this improves anything about them. Sub City is best sandwich/value in Eastern Iowa.

I had Firehouse subs last night because it was close to my dentist.

I got a large Italian sub and it cost $16.74.

I thought that was expensive just for a sub. The sub was OK. My gums and lips were still numb as hell from the dentist when I mauled the sub.

CSB.

What'd you get at Potbellys?

I got the Cuban sandwich there awhile back. It was pretty good.

Sorry, but nearly 17 bucks for a sandwich is nuts.

Not sure how insulated the franchises are but prepared to be squeezed like an orange.
And zested.
Firms like Blackrock see companies like this as disposable. They'll wring every nickel they can out of the company then sell off the pith. It's not about long-term profitability. It's about maximizing the bottom line every quarter.

I always forget who the other posters that live in Ames are. Downtown Delli is my go to. Locally owned by a nice family

That chain could be bankrupt in 10 years or less.

Can't blame the owner though. Few people would turn down an 8 billion dollar retirement.
He’s only getting $6.8 billion.

He’ll have a knapsack full of jack after taxes.
