Another coach goes down in FBI Adidas shoe scandal

I wonder what percentage of Top 50 or even Top 100 recruits receive deals.

This Smart kid had a composite ranking of 35. A good recruit sure, but that's not 1-and-done, McDonald's All-American, type either.

Other than Tyler Cook, I don't think we've landed a single out-of-state Top 100 recruit in the last decade. How much of that is legitimate and how much of that is because we aren't buying players.

I doubt we had to make deals for Wieskamp, Woody, or Gessel.

It appears the kid, the kid's handler and the kid's mom all got a very good deal out of going to LSU.

In a different telephone call intercepted by the FBI, the LSU Head Coach joked that the player would be compensated more than the "rookie minimum."

He then said that he had made deals for "as good of players as him" that were "a lot simpler than this."

That s some sweet action.

I read the LSU coach is good.

NBA G-League to NBA will be his path now. The Quinn Snyder plan.

i always find it interesting how the parents want to be compensated for their kid going to a particular school

it really makes you wonder how many AAU coaches, parents & "handlers" have been paid to get access to players & to help steer players to particular schools; only one AAU coach got charged by the FBI, if i recall correctly

it also reminds me of a game broadcast where the color guy said that you won't ever hear Fran's voice or Fran mentioned in an FBI wiretap

I think the cheating is crazy. LSU is likely small stuff.

Hopefully the FBI can step up and rid the country of this cesspool of degenerates....

....both in college basketball and the White House. They’ve got a lot on their plate to save our favorite institutions

NCAA just needs to loosen its grip on atheletes. In today’s money grabbing world it’s the only outcome that will work. Greeny on ESPN suggested this morning to let student athletes do endorsements, collect on their fame with out collecting a salary or anything from their school: similarly as Olympic athletes are paid. Made a lot of sense.

Really Vitale, but the academic fraud classes that went on at North Carolina for years, well that was ok. Roy Williams is a class act
WellRoy Williams is as big a cheater as anyone ever next to the Michigan fab five, but because he is a ACC coach, well you know Vitale thinks the college b-ball world rises and sets with ACC b-ball. Vitale is just an old,!overvthe hill hypocrite

Dickie V. knows the game and I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he was paying for players back in his day. Almost all programs at the highest levels are involved in this payola scheme and its been going on a long, long time. Is it any wonder that a program like Iowa can’t gain any traction against their competition when the deck is stacked so heavily against you? It makes me ill that the NCAA sits idly by while the FBI collects scalps for them. Or more accurately, despite them.

Vitale had a record of 78-30 in college and never went farther than the Sweet 16, I don’t think. He was 34-60 in the NBA.

He apparently didn’t pay enough for his players.....

Some will be caught red handed (Williams?), but will get the light touch punishment, because before this one incident, they have led "blameless lives".

The premier AAU teams? — west coast elite, dc premier, NYC gauchos, Mac irvin, Detroit family, Indiana elite etc. All of them at some point. Yes, ALL.

The rest? Close to none.

Only “sure thing” talent is worth the money and the risk, and there’s really only about 20-30 (sometimes less) of those guys in any given year. Which means that a handful of programs are FILTHY ALL of the time, and most are occasionally grey to 100% squeaky clean. The filthy programs are not hard to guess but almost impossible to nail (minus actual phone taps lolz).
