We were just saying the same thing yesterday.
But it's not like Blevins got all the Iowa girls either.

Yep, she usually went to Cali for her #1 pitcher. Lisa Birocci was a major exception.

Tournament coverage this weekend noted that Chloe Miller did not play Gold-level Club ball. You could say Wisconsin certainly took a risk on her.

I read an article about the QC's high school player of the year nominees. 4 div 1 softball players.

Talent is talent.....Chloe Miller showed enough in high school ball that she is a D-1 player.........her team mate at Pleasant Valley...Sydney Dwyer a senior there this year is heading to the University of Minnesota....Blevins got the kids from Iowa that she wanted.....she certainly had more than 2 Iowa girls on her roster.

Some pretty good talent in Des Moines area going out of state too. A pitcher to Mizzou and slapper to Wisco.

Have probably one of the best ever to come out of the state in Ankeny (HS Soph), wonder if she's getting any looks? If I were Iowa I would of been at every one of her state tournament games last summer, didn't see them anywhere.

Chloe is Wisconsin's starting catcher as a true freshmen! She didn't play catcher in her 5 years at PV but a couple of times! How many girls are talented enough to do that? She didn't need to play Gold level. She can play! Iowa recruited her but not nearly as hard/well as Wisconsin!! She was a Hawkeye fan too....too bad. Dwyer is good enough for Minnesota but not Iowa?? Very interesting? Not only are Iowa HS girls going to Mizzou, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, but a pitcher from Waukee verballed to Arkansas and another young pitcher to Northwestern. Strong chance Ankeny girl likely leaving the state too??? PV has an 8th grader who verballed to U of Washington this winter. These girls are not leaving the state for poor programs. How many of these girls were actually recruited hard by Iowa??

PVHawk hit the nail on the head. If we didn't recruit these girls then we don't recognize talent well enough. If we did recruit them and they turned us down we need better recruiters. I am sure Looper is a nice lady but IMO she is not D1 head coaching material.

I hate the ISU vs. IA comparisons, but have to share my experience. I emailed/facebooked both programs to get information on their camps this January. Never received a response from Iowa, but almost immediately received a response from ISU.

We did end up going to the Iowa camp and the girls loved it and were treated great by the girls and coaches. We'll be going back but will probably check out others in the state as well.

Blevins would not even look at Chelsea Thomas who ended up being one of the best pitchers in the country the last five years at Missouri and a member of team USA.

I would guess Blevins already had Massey committed, and her strategy was usually to recruit one elite pitcher as her #1 and then find a #2. When the #1 graduated there would be another elite recruit coming in the following fall.

There's no argument that Thomas has been better than Massey. Just one of many things that have not gone well for the Iowa program over the last several years. That said, Massey's arm and bat will be dearly missed next year.
