The titanic is taking on water.

This time it's Hinson. I remember the hype when he transferred in.

Oodleberger running guys off to lower expectations?

O/U on wins...bout 6?

Interesting...
...I wonder why he suddenly is leaving after meetings with the coach last week. Did Doodleberger tell him that there wasn't a scholarship for him? Sounds like Ames is having family issues...

I am relatively sure that the narrative will be he didn't "buy in" to the "culture " Oodleberger is creating.

I imagine the real reason is about lowering fan expectations.

For every decent hire of Pollard, he's whiffed on about three.

The coaching turnover in Ames is pretty remarkable.

He was told he was coming off the bench. Aljaz Kunc beat him out for the starting PF spot. He was one of the better offensive players, but the absolute worst on defense. My guess is a mid year transfer PF/C now? Just wish the added attrition would have happened earlier. There were 2 bigs I know of that were really thinking about Iowa State but we didn't have any room. Iowa Native Ryan Hawkins who is now at Creighton, and Marquette transfer Dawson Garcia who is now at North Carolina. Both would be huge for the overall makeup of the roster right now.

So who all is on the roster at this point? Off the top of my head I can only think of Conditt and Jackson for guys that were on the team last season. Are you guys going to be in trouble if the injury bug hits? Honest questions because there was so much movement of players in and out that I couldn't keep track.

For me I was shocked with the wording on the press release or the quote from the Iowa State coach, when he said the player "quit" the team. Yes while that is factually correct most times coach speak is used.

Oh yeah, injuries could be a massive issue this year if they hit. Still have 5 for the backcourt and 4 for the frontcourt so I think ISU is fine as far as numbers go now, but you lose even one of the frontcourt guys now it's pretty ugly. This does nothing to disprove my thoughts that it's probably better they purge the program of any whiff of Prohm. It's Conditt, Jackson, Walker as the only remaining Prohm holdovers.

Yeah I was a little surprised. They absolutely MUST get probably 2 solid bigs in this class though now. Off to a good start with the guards IMO.

Always the optimist at IA State.

Coming off 2 - 22.

I don't think either ISU or Iowa made an offer to Hawkins, which surprised hell out of me at the time.

Wasn't Hinson a transfer from Ole Miss? Wasn't he sitting out his transfer year? I'd bet he regrets that choice now.
You kinda expect attrition with a coaching change.

Oodleberger is in a decent spot though... the expectations are so low that if he wins 8 games this season, he's likely COY.

Pollard has really had some bad coaching hires. He's lucky he spent $$$ for facilities improvements because most everything else is a dumpster fire.

ISU really just cements itself as a lower tier D-1 program.

I wonder how much his buy out clause is? I guess we'll find out in a few years but, by then, I would bet that Pollard has extended his contract for getting to the 10-win platform 🙂

Hinson likely didn't like the idea he would be coming off the bench combined with the fact he will be playing the 4 and 5 positions. Brockington, Kalschuer and Enaruna all are better options at the 3. Brockington, Enaruna and Kunc are better 4's apparently in small lineups. ISU is going to really lack quality depth this year. Hard for me to believe Hinson was behind the above guys but I guess that is what the narrative is.

Hinson was brought in by Prohm.

That's what this is about.

Oodleberger is running guys off to bring his guys in. Totally his prerogative.

Supposedly Pollard and Oodleberger are pretty tight/drinking buddies, so his leash will be pretty long. I'd say he gets at least four years to get to .500.

Good. Another 4 years of anarchy in Ames.

Oodleberger failed at UNLV and ended up falling up to be a HC in the Big 12.

Doesn't make sense to me, but I think Pollard didn't want to pay big $$$ for a qualified coach.

I sense ISU will try and plug holes with the "portal".

Too late for 2021-2022. They'll be a joke after that.

I think Coach Otzelberger (enough with the childish nickname) is doing the right thing. This 1st year is about establishing a positive culture in the program, not winning games. None of us go to practice. None of us know anything about Hinson. TJ has forgotten more about basketball than any of us know. The 2-22 record was about more than a lack of talent. It was evident watching the games last year that chemistry was a BIG problem. TJ is trying to rid the program of any cancers. This won't be an easy or a quick fix.

So Denny Albaugh refused to give Pollard $$$ to hire a legitimate HC?

Oodleberger wasn't even an average coach at his previous school. I don't think we'll ever know what the time-line was in Foster getting booted, but from what has occurred since TJO arrived, it appears like he's in "over his head ".

10 players with eligibility have left the program since Doodleberger took over. 10. He did get some nice players, mostly role players, but the team in Ames is anything but cohesive.

This year is a total crapshoot for him. And it's going to get ugly fast. He'll be drinking lots of beers with his buddy trying to cover his butt.

The guy was about to get fired from a Mountain West Conference school last season.

Reading the UNLV forums last spring, Pollard hiring him saved the UNLV AD from having to can the guy.

The message board crowd was thrilled he went to Ames.

I'm sure clone fans will say that he was "establishing a positive culture" or "building the program" when he was at UNLV. He will be lucky to come close to duplicating what he did at UNLV at IA State in 2 years, and that was pretty bad.

So is ISU's coach more like Dewey or Sergeant Hulka?

Are the team-building locker-room talks like this one?

Who is the Big Toe in Ames these days?

No doubt. Coach K agrees with you

Jaden Walker is still there. Yes injuries are a concern.

Isn't TJ big buds with Albaugh's son-in-law Jason Loutsch (who owns cyclonefanatic)? Not saying that is the main reason he was hired, but I'm sure it didn't hurt.

Hell maybe they both consider him a very good friend. Otz and CW were both groomsmen in each other's weddings apparently.
Ummmmm....I think it's pretty evident that Loutsch is good friends with TJ.....and am positive he has Pollard's ear. It would not surprise me in the least if Loutsch, Williams, Pollard and TJ regularly get together to drink Busch Lights and brainstorm clonefanatic propaganda.

With a new staff transfers are the name of the game. Who knows how the guy handled himself off the court. I give props to a coach who cleans house on guys who don’t behave on and OFF the court.

They are probably friends lol Pollard wanted to hire TJ the last time around. So hiring him this time wasn't a stretch.
