Oh wait….does this count since an ‘assault weapon’ wasnt used?

Or does the fact they were targeted make it not count?

Just looking for some guidance on what we should consider a mass killing these days.
It counts, it's certainly tragic, however mass killings with a knife aren't a daily occurrence. If we could get gun mass killings down to the same rate as knife mass killings then I wouldn't think we had a problem at all.

People are certainly killed every day in the United States with guns. A lot of people. However, people who die in mass shootings only make up a tiny percentage of all people killed in this country with guns. Gun deaths in the U.S. aren’t about mass shootings and assault rifles. They’re about hand guns and single victim shootings. Overwhelmingly. I have no issue with banning assault rifles. Take them all and melt them down. Whatever. I’m not sure how aware people are of how little that will impact the gun violence in this country though.

Sad to think there are people who will be disappointed to find out it wasn’t a (white) dude - with a gun - who did this.

Tally up gun mass killing vs knife. There's a reason guns get more attention.

And the race, political affiliation and religion of the shooter and victim.

Those 4 things determine who covers it how much and with what agenda.

Did the killer come from mexico illegally?

They're after semi automatic weapons, pistols included.

The bill bans certain semi-automatic guns but not all. Basically the same ban that was in place in the 90s.

It's sad that we now look immediately for the type of weapon used because of politics. It's always about the killer. Guns and knives are just tools.
The primary purpose of one of those tools is to kill either animals or humans. The primary purpose of the other tool is to cut.

Is the angle here that "mass killings" are only labeled as such if an assault rifle is involved? I'm assuming because of the sinister media/liberal agenda or something to that effect?

Here is one definition I found and it doesn't include a type of weapon in the definition:

Mass murder is the act of murdering a number of people, typically simultaneously or over a relatively short period of time and in close geographic proximity. The FBI defines mass murder as murdering four or more people during an event with no "cooling-off period" between the murders. A mass murder typically occurs in a single location where one or more people kill several others.

A mass murder may be committed by individuals or organizations whereas a spree killing is committed by one or two individuals. Mass murderers differ from spree killers, who kill at two or more locations with almost no time break between murders and are not defined by the number of victims, and serial killers, who may kill people over long periods of time. The incidents of mass shootings are continuing to increase

First, this story is all over the headlines, so OP is a dumbass as usual. Second, the bodies were found after the killing, so it's not as sensational as when news breaks of an active mass killing in progress.
But this one will end up getting the Dateline, 20/20 process as the people killed were all pretty young white people and there's a bit of mystery around it. Most are out of the news after two days like the UVA killings.

We're still better than these guys at least
  1. El Salvador — 36.78
  2. Venezuela — 33.27
  3. Guatemala — 29.06
  4. Colombia — 26.36
  5. Brazil — 21.93
  6. Bahamas — 21.52
  7. Honduras — 20.15
  8. U.S. Virgin Islands — 19.40
  9. Puerto Rico — 18.14
  10. Mexico — 16.41
I wonder why so many people are willing to risk their lives crossing contries by foot to get here. Must be for the handouts and to take our jobs.

Getting back on track - they're now saying that two other roommates were home during the killings and were not harmed. Very weird.

Agree. There’s a quote from the police today saying, “potentially they are witnesses, potentially they are victims. Potentially they are key to this whole thing.” WTF does that even mean and how do they not know if they are witnesses or victims? Sounds to me like the two roommates went Charlie Manson on the others and then slept it off.

I just read about this detail too. Really freaking strange.
From the sounds of it, they think the roommates may have slept through the attack. The stabbings happened in the early morning hours, yet 911 wasn't called until around noon.

They believe the victims had been sleeping when they were stabbed multiple times with a large knife. The police initially said there was no threat to the community but have since walked those statements back saying they can't say there isn't a threat to the community.

They are reporting one of the victims had tried calling her longtime boyfriend multiple times between 2:26am and 2:52am, but the calls went unanswered.

There are still no suspects.

Very scary situation.

Yeah this whole thing is weird and getting weirder each day. They were all out and probably intoxicated so that some may have been passed out in their room not hearing this seems possible. But, they weren’t the ones who called 911 so were they still passed out when cops arrived? If not who called police and what made them call when the survivors didn’t? Police also said the 2 girls took Uber back to the apartment but Uber said there’s no record. Police now say someone else drove them there, so who is this person and what do they know?

Police said there’s no evidence of sexual assault and doesn’t sound like there were items stolen/missing. So, whoever did this went it looking to settle a score out of anger to stab several people to death. Who do they know who was pissed off at something that happened recently?

It’s a very small town, so the details will come out sooner or later. Just a very strange case so far.
