I haven't seen anybody bring this up. We have 6 scholarship players that are from within and hour of campus. We have a great team with a bunch of local guys. How cool is that. We have two sets of brothers. Both of these sets of brothers are "legacy" types. Dad that played here or dad that is the coach. We got J Bo whose other brothers all went to play that team up north. Didn't his dad play football here or something? Wieskamp is the states all time point scorer. What a cool group of guys to have on the team!

Yes. Gordy Bohannon led the Hawkeyes to the 1982 Rose Bowl. Also posted a 10-7 win over Nebraska and a huge upset of UCLA who was highly ranked at the time.

Add in Ulis. Obviously it would be a huge shock to anybody if he ever comes close to his brothers level, but still kind of a legacy as well. Not a whole lot of consolation there, but those small things paint a positive image for your program when you stuck with that family even after getting the rug pulled out from under you by Kentucky.

I'm not sure you understand what a legacy is.

And for clarification... Wieskamp is not the states all time leading scorer.

He is the 4A all time leader but around 6th overall I believe? Iowa sports information needs to update that in his bio.

But 4A is the top division isn't it? So he is the best of the best. Playing teams like Wilton or Durant would raise everyones scoring average. (No disrespect to them)

4A is the largest class. Not the top division.

There are terrible 4A schools too

Jbo brothers didn't all play for "that team up north". One played at UNI, and two at Wisconsin. Well all north of Iowa city, but not all the same team.. Yes Gordy played football here "or something"???

I’m glad all of these players have turned out to be good. When we were recruiting and had trouble getting people that lived more than an hour away to commit I wasn’t always so sure. I’m glad to be wrong.

Iowa's results have always been heavily correlated to its in-state talent. Really happy it's working out at the moment

Fran's recruiting of non-Iowa, non-family, non-legacy, non-connected (Nunge & CJ) has been abysmal. 2020 class TBD.

Cook & Garza were the only ones that were truly coveted by many top tier teams. Unsurprisingly, they have both turned out to be great players.

Am I reading this right that you’re calling CJ Frederick an “abysmal” recruit? How about Touissant?

I’ll also give Fran plenty of credit for recruiting JBo, considering none of his talented brothers played here.

Reading comprehension is difficult

1) Nunge lived in Coralville as a youngster

2) CJ's uncle played at Notre Dame while Fran was an assistant.

3) I didn't say Joe T is an abysmal player. I said Fran's recruiting has been abysmal; particularly for players outside of Iowa ties that other top programs are involved. When he goes head-to-head vs decent programs for Top 150 kids, he's failed miserably. Cook and Garza are the two big fish he's landed in 10 years and they both did well. Stars do matter.

4) Really on the J-bo thing? Good God, man. Fran beat UNI & Drake for J-bo. Really it's almost hard to believe he chose the Hawks over UNI.

5) Iowa didn't offer Zach or Matt, but nice try

Fran had a pretty big hill to climb when he arrived at Iowa.

1) I'd count Gesell, White, and Toussaint as pretty good gets based on their Sr seasons. Fran got in earlier than most, before better offers rolled in. Ulis was a near miss as well. Fredrick had his mind made up, but his Sr year would have also garnered him better offers.

1) he spent a lot of years in Indian, so it’s not like they just grabbed the local kid.

2) I didn’t realize this actually, but at what point do we undercut any good recruit with a game of 6 Degrees of Fran McCaffrey? He’s been in the game for a long time.

3) You didn’t say Joe T was abysmal, but you implied it. Fran has had a lot of misses, but I do like that he keeps aiming for the top of the pile. Unfortunately, it means a lot of misses.

4) Your argument reads like Fran shouldn’t have offered. Nobody else wanted him......but Fran saw enough and it’s paid off.
