Anthony Torres to Western Michigan

What?? Really? Was he looking for a place with worst winters & more snow fall than Iowa City?? the coaches wanted him to move to OL??? Well based on his highlight film blocking is what he was doing a lot of... Well, Best of Luck to him!

If he switched to WMU, he must think that G5 is his level of play, rather than P5.

Yeah I heard we wanted him to switch but he wants to stay at TE. Looking at his film, to my naked eye, that would be a mistake. Kid has GREAT size and mobility to be a LT. Not great speed to be a TE.

Kid must have wanted to keep a sleeker figure.

Wish him well, personally don't understand the decision but some kids just have their hearts set on certain positions. Until they see the opportunity in others (cough, Derby, cough)....

If I was 6'5, young, and athletic I would jump at the chance to play OT and have chance for NFL lottery type money. Being a slow TE means a post college career in some field other Football.

What is up with Beyer? Is he being groomed for OL?

A few things to remark upon ... firstly, Iowa offered Torres initially at TE, but his film shows an athletic big man who can be a pretty punishing blocker. The Hawks likely would have loved to have given him a chance at TE ... however, due to his injury, Torres didn't have any SR film to show growth at TE. Thus, that automatically makes Torres more of a developmental guy at a position that is already a deep position of strength for the Hawks. In the worst case, the Hawks have the flexibility in the class to slide VanSumeren over to TE (and that might be his preference anyhow).

Subsequently, Iowa found itself in a position where it would still like an O-lineman BUT it had other positions to FILL in addition to trying to juggle their 'ships so that they could still accommodate Waggoner. Thus, this was an ideal scenario where they likely had a strong "plan B" for Torres on the OL ... and their scholarship needs forced them to "plan B" ... either to keep Torres aboard more at a position of need (on the OL) or to "cut bait" in the most honest and scrupulous way possible.

Breyer was in at TE the last game in mop up duty. He is just behind really good players. He is not nearly big enough for OL. He is still building himself into a TE. I think he will be very good also.

Sorry, trying to imaging the first day of fall camp, when all his other team mates who would have jumped at an Iowa offer, given the chance, looking at Torres thinking...WTF?

Best of luck to him and all, but obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed.
