Trying to recall the timing of Iowa's recruitment of Anunoby last fall. Appears that Jones may have been the fall-back after Anunoby committed to Indiana. Nice player, certainly would fit Fran's system very well.

Too bad for Jones, he could of made this team a lot more dangerous with another outside shooter.

To clarify, the intent of my post was to compliment Anunoby, not to take a shot against Jones in any manner whatsoever.

Actually Jones was offered in favor of taking a less talented big. If there was a fall-back to Anunoby it was Isaiah Moss.

However, that may not be an accurate term, the recruitment of each coincided with the other. The offer to Moss was only later after he passed his ACT's.

Anunoby is a beast and he would have been so nice in an Iowa uniform. Really glad we ended up with the guys we got but, man, he would have looked special in black and gold.

When/if Fran starts landing some of these highly rated and very talented recruits, Iowa will become a powerhouse. Cook is the 1st step and hopefully guys like Tilmon and/or Williams will be next. Ulis would have been a game changer.

Wagner, Anuoby, and Morrow--> I thought we were looking at all 3. Wagner was a fallback of sorts, but I think he has as a lot of potential. That said, Anuoby is little bit longer.

It's funny Dan....I just posted this about Moss in the lounge..

"Imo...if you'd like a player like Anouby for IU, you are going to like a player like Moss. I think Moss has more talent if you watch their HS vids and we all know where Moss played his HS ball at. Moss can play on the perimeter knock down 3s and can take it to the rim, plays above the rim, like you saw Anouby do today against MSU. I am very excited about Moss and Hutton. This extra year for them both is going to pay big dividends."

I also think the red shirts are going to surprise next year. Iowa is going to be extremely athletic next year, just not very experienced. It will be fun to see how the coaches put next year's team together.

All one has to do is check out Rivals to see when a player commits. Some sites have dates when players were offered but those are sketchy at best.

You can see there that Ahmad committed on 8/10/2014. He was the third commit for us. He committed before he had even visited Iowa City! True! After, we still pursued Anunoby, Moss, Morrow, Illikainen those are just the ones off the top of my head. That I KNOW we were still after while we already had Fleming, Hutton and Wagner. Ahmad was no fallback.

Just off the Big Ten, 2015, that I know of and some of the days they are listed as committing, these were some more guys we were after:

Juwan Morgan. Committed to Indiana 9/10/2014
Kyle Ahrens. Michigan State 6/7/2014
Glynn Watson Jr. Nebraska 4/23/2014

I could go on. But then there are Samir Sehic, that Baptiste guy and Joseph Toye, who all committed to Vanderbilt. And then all the other schools in the world that got someone we were interested in. Or offered.

We simply can't take them all, we are allowed 13 scholarships.

Many, many, many of these guys aren't performing at a high level, yet. Heck, even Anunoby wasn't to impressive until his minutes increased after Blackmon was hurt. The fact is, we don't who really is a fall-back, or who we wanted all along, or who we would have preferred.

But we do know that posters questioned why we took Jok. People are hot and cold about Uhl, like they were Jok last year. We just don't know about many of our young guys....but we should know by now what tends to happen is we as a group get surprised just how well things turn out.

Actually, OG was relatively under recruited in high school (3 star here and Scout, and wasn't evaluated on 247 throughout recruitment). I was pretty disappointed when IU offered because he seemed like a guy with high upside.

OG and Moss play different positions and would have been dominating together. It will be interesting to see Moss play next year.....will he bring to the table dominating skills on both ends of the court as OG has done this year for Indy when he has played.
