Wife teaches ESL at a large Milwaukee High School. Almost all of her kids are refugees. So we usually have to get a grand of supplies every year out of pocket.
Best time to go? Any other tips.

Walmart is fantastic people watching. Go anytime that you're not in a hurry to get somewhere and can stand for 10 mins in the checkout line. Bring popcorn. Save money on those rolled back prices!

The Iowa State Fair is just like Walmart with the scurge of people that roll into both of them.

To OP, you should ask all of us to help out with this, either Venmo or put a list out here so we can send care packages with things you need or sponsor a kid with all the supplies that child needs to start the school year.

Looking for composition books, note books, glue sticks, mechanical pencils, scissors, rulers. Bought about 200 dollars worth of comp books yesterday.
Mostly refugees. The afghan girl refugees were especially heart breaking. Never been in a school. Can’t understand the concept of a game. Essentially a pack animal her entire existence.

Go on a workday and ask for the store manager. Explain your situation and there is a good chance you’ll get some solid help. They are empowered to make decisions like that.

Mornings, 8am or thereabouts. Saturdays and Sundays usually are pretty empty at that time.

I've been going to the same Walmart in CR for 20 years now, never once had an issue no matter the time or day.

How do you get to talk to a “store manager” at Amazon?

Wal-Mart local management level has some incredibly professional and highly trained people. They have tools and programs to do local charity and could likely donate a lot of supplies, especially if they are clearance.

Well I’m more about certain items. Sorry didn’t specify. Mechanical pencils and glue sticks just easier. That’s all retail box stores. Those items tend to never be clearanced.
Ive done this a lot and we’ve had lists and charities. But things keep getting cut and/or requirements get changed.
