Anybody been to Vicksburg, Misippi?

I am going in mid-March for my semi-annual Civil War battlefield trip. Places to stay, places to eat and drink?

I know it's a long shot on HROT, but I was surprised at how many posters had been to Shiloh.

I have been through the battlefield. Didn't stay or eat there, though. Drove up from Natchez.

I'm curious if the South re-enactments show the battles they won or if they do re-enact battles that they lost? They seem like sore losers to me to I assume it's "Pro South Involvement in the Civil War" propaganda rather than historically accurate events.

Yes, but it was about 12 years ago. I'm sure it's a lot different now. Town was quaint, but not a ton there.

Enjoyed the stop. It was a good civil war experience.

I did some work down there and stayed at the battlefield inn. It is right next to the battlefield park, and they have a civil war museum on site. The breakfast is a nice southern spread; grits, etc. I didn't get a chance to go to the park b/c I worked every day. Went down to the river boats, and saw where the river battle was. Magnolia land, have fun.

We didn't stay either but the battlefield is excellent. Make sure to see the partially restored gunboat and read the poem tributes in the cemetery.
We went first thing in the morning so the traffic in the park was pretty light.
