I’d like to know who guarded Miles and Hidalgo they had a combined 45 points. I’m being petty here I know, but PB isn’t in the same stratosphere as CC. I suppose she likely is a better defender, but she’s not a lock down defender. For instance (poor comparison overall I know) but she doesn’t defend like Kylie Feurbach. I don’t think she even defends like Lucy.

She doesn’t pass like CC, she doesn’t even rebound like CC. She’s a more efficient shooter, maybe even a much more efficient shooter, but she never forces shots. And she really only shoots open 3s (0-4 tonight)

I doubt her effective FG% or true shooting % is higher than CC ( heavily weighted towards 3s) and she honestly isn’t as quick with or without the ball as CC.

As for UCONN, I’ve said multiple times now this year. There are no unbeatable teams.

Incidentally JuJu, who I love, isn’t having a year like last year as of yet and she also isn’t the same player as CC. 1st off, she’s a combo 2/3. She’s a willing passer but not spectacular. Nor would she be.

She also shoots a similar, but lower FG% than CC does & doesn’t shoot at nearly the same 3pt volume. She also plays inside more.

It would be nice if these girls could organically grow their game without certain factions trying to make them better than CC.

UConn's first road game, and @ND. Hidalgo had a game. ND hit around 8 shots in a row in the 4th, just had it going.

Bueckers played pretty well.
Hidalgo had the better game however.

Two good teams. Will probably both be in the top 5 throughout the season.

I watched most of it. Bueckers is probably more on par with Lucy Olsen than Clark at this point. I don't know if injuries have slowed her down or if the game has sped up these past five years, but she did not appear to be the world beater she once was.

Yes, that’s my take. But I can’t really say whether she’s slower because of the injuries or I just misremembered 🤷‍♂️

It is weird with Paige. Off the court she still has all of the swagger, and receives all of the treatment from the media, of a superstar. Then you watch her on the court and she plays with great skill, but not as someone that can take over a game at anytime. Many people were saying she put up a quiet 25 points last night when contrasted to a sophomore Hidalgo taking over the game and winning it.

I wouldn't say she's on par with Lucy, but Lucy is closer to Paige than Paige is to CC in terms of being that superstar on the court. Similar to that quote about Brian Scalabrine being closer to Lebron than any dude in a pick up league is to Brian. I doubt that Paige is going to come in and be a 1st team All-WNBA talent as a rookie next year. She is going to be in a struggle just to earn rookie of the year.

Maybe she was better than CC coming out of high school but it’s not even close these days. Going to guess the 2 surgeries have taken away a lot of explosiveness. Shes a nice player but the physicality of the W is going to be rough for her.

Yes, very intrigued by how she’ll look in the WNBA. I don’t believe she’ll get the CC treatment and not because of subterfuge or a nefarious attempt to lift her above CC. These teams still want to win and I doubt they are going to be any more excited about being overshadowed by Paige Bueckers than they were CC. I just don’t think she’ll need to have that kind of treatment. As she’s not that kind of player.

I’m also concerned for her because of the long schedule from college to pros and her being injury prone

PB is the quiet 25 type. She's going to get her 25 points, but the system that Geno runs doesn't really allow for a player to absolutely dominate like CC did.

ND on the other hand, Pretty much everything runs through Hidalgo and Miles and sometimes King/Citron.

Bueckers isn't going to be handling the ball as much in the WNBA, so that alone will likely make it seem like she has an easier entry to the pros, but it's still going to be tough for her. Should be interesting to see how it goes. Together with Arike Dallas would present a problem for defenses.

Durability? Idk. Bueckers always *looks* like that could be an issue, but she's probably getting stronger the further she gets from her last injury. Would be tragic if it happened to her again.

That, and she isn’t a killer a la Clark.

Ohhh, watch that disappear for her and certain other players coming in, especially if the CC hype train persists..............
Nope. Yes, CC took it more than anyone. But in general the league is just physical. Shes pretty frail. She’s not getting the CC treatment because she’s also not taking the ball up the court and pulling up from 28 feet.

It’s okay to say that Clark is the best all around female basketball player in the world….I personally don’t think it’s even close. For the next few years at least, people are going to try and make certain players out to be, but no one is.

I think the "better then CC" was given more weight because she signed with UConn. You could have flipped a coin on either one. I'm aware she won the NPOTY year as a freshman, (only woman ever), but CC22's numbers were better the PB's even that year. I still bristle when the ESPN hacks bring that up. She won because UConn won that year, and Iowa was still figuring out how to harness CC into the team dynamic.

To be fair to JuJu, her PPG is probably down because they added a lot of talent around her.
Exactly, which is why I'm not believing that she'll break CC22's record. During the "Full court press" documentary, the one guys said, (after losing Monica and Warnock going into last season) "Caitlin knew she probably need to score 25-35 points every game, for Iowa to win". She went out and averaged almost 32 points/gm. Juju will have much more fire power around her then CC22 did.
