Anyone catch the ISU game today?

Watched parts of the game. Defense looked pretty solid for the most part. The offense seems off though. I believe Campbell is calling the plays, yes? I don’t think they use Montgomery or Butler nearly enough. Akron is a 6-6 type team at best. They should be 1-2 right now but had that flukey win against NW last week.

I was actually at the game today (friend asked me to go for free).

Iowa State struggled to run the football most of the game. Their offensive line got pushed around quite a bit. That said, Montgomery is special and not only elusive but tough to bring down. He didn't play as much as I would have expected in the 2nd half, and I'm not sure if he was a bit dinged or what. None of the people around me seemed to know. Of course, most of the people around me didn't seem to know much about anything as it relates to football, as most of them complained about the officials the whole game with the exception of the old guy in front of me who constantly set them straight on why certain calls were or weren't made. It was actually comical to be quite honest.

In general, Iowa State IMO gave a lackluster performance. They were just okay on defense and much of the same on offense. They just seemed disinterested so it's hard to take away much from their performance.

On a side note, the Akron coaches went Old Kirk midway through the 4th Quarter down 10, as they chose to punt on 4th and 5 from the ISU 38. Had they went for it, got it, and then scored, it might have been an interesting finish.

My dad and I watched it for a little bit. The little I saw, it looked a typical 8-4 KF team that was better than their opponent, but let them hang around. I mostly watched Michigan rape Debby.

I was at the game, just got home.

ISU defense is solid. DBs struggled again - but part of that was Akrons QB was really good. He put the ball on the money, hard to contain him in pocket, threw well on the run. DBs cant cover their man all day.

ISU offense is hard to watch. They will struggle to beat good teams because of it.

Tribute to Celia before the game was well done. So tragic. It brought tears to my eyes. It really put the game into perspective.

The observations of others here are pretty much what I thought (watched on TV, couldn't go to the game). ISU was basically going through the motions. Akron is a good MAC team again this year -- imho, Nebraska is fortunate their opener was canceled. I didn't understand why Bowden punted late in the game, down two scores. Also didn't understand something Campbell did: Cyclones are driving deep in Zip territory in the fourth quarter, leading by 10, appeared ready to put it away. On first and ten, we substitute the entire backfield and receivers, playing a true freshman QB who hadn't taken a snap all year. Two plays gained nothing, starters returned and we ended up with a FG.

This was a classic trap game. Zips were riding high; ISU was coming off two tough losses, looking ahead to road games at ranked teams the next two weeks. Then there was the emotional aspect of the murder.

I don't complain about wins.
