Shockingly low salary for someone with a Master's degree and previous experience working on a D1 basketball staff.
you ain't kidding....wow, I guess you really have to pay your dues in the coaching biz (much like the minors in baseball).

Yep, if someone has the desired qualifications they should be making double or more than the listed salary. There are people who have entire careers based around social media and it is just a thrown in line under desired.

Even if a person meets the bare minimum qualifications that pay is low. Frequent travel, working nights, weekends, and holidays. You’re basically going to hire a person that graduated with a bachelor’s in the last 12-24 months for that salary. Maybe they already have a former player in mind.

Next time there's a major position like head coach or a coordinator position for football I want to send a doctored resume in. Figure it'd be kind of a cool piece of Hawkeye memorabilia if you could garner a rejection letter on an athletic department letterhead.

'Thank you for your interest in being the head football coach of the Hawkeyes. However we are seeking other qualified individuals at this time.'

Hard pass. My salary is pretty modest but even I make more than that.
Your honesty is refreshing in the age of pseudo internet millionaires. Ha! There are plenty out there with Toilet Paper Degrees where 42K would be a gift from God. They likely don't know shit about Basketball however so..........

That’s not even close to true. 42K with any kind of degree is a joke. And that’s with a masters. I own a small business with an inside staff of 5 people who all make 45-60K a year plus full medical. I can’t hire an outside guy for less than 60K to start plus full benefits.

If I wasn't so dumb, lazy and undisciplined in my late teens and early 20s I'd probably be making close to double what I do now, but instead of focusing on the "what ifs", I'm just grateful for what I've got because there are many many people that would give their left arm to have my job right now.

For a 22-24 year old that just got their first real sheepskin, $42K isn't all that bad, at least not in an expensive state like Illinois or California.

Now those who have a BS in engineering or a nursing degree, then yeah it's definitely not a great starting salary.

Who is leaving? Al?

Yup, my neighbor was looking at another job career last year (not anymore though) and he looked into being a local garbageman (person?)....my jaw dropped when he said they 'start' at approx. $75K. Obviously its not a glamorous job, but that is some good coin!

That salary is a joke. Especially if they expect to pay someone that with a master’s degree. That person has just paid about 150-160K to get a degree and a masters and start them at that?

Masters not required, desired. And the experience is pretty open ended. A lot of jobs are listed like this, but often filled by lower-qualified individuals.

Seems pretty common. The position is likely for someone who just wrapped finished their time as a GA.

For many of us yeah thats not a good salary. For someone starting out yeah thats not a bad salary if it also includes full benefits, 401k, and pension. Its all about putting in time in government and getting a fat pension in the end.

My wife is a teacher with a masters. She started at about that range. 12 years later and she is making just over 70k and nearing halfway on her 30year pension. When she retires she will have a salary that rose to around 80k a fat 401k and an annual pension worth just over 40k a year for the rest of her life. That doesn't include what she will also get in social security.

I'm pretty sure she will be out on the SS if ya don't pay on you don't get the benefit.

I should add on to that. She pays in and will get social security. States like California dont so teachers from California won't get social security. A little fact that certain groups leave out when they bost about teacher salaries compared to other states. It's much more beneficial financially to be in a state like my wife than it is to be in a state like California, Colorado and some some of the northeastern states. If you're a teacher that has their masters like my wife it pays big time to be in a state like we are in. In the end you lose out on a lot of money when your in a state like California.
