What are Hammonds credentials as DPOY?
I do think the DPOY is the most questionable decision. Hammons blocks a lot of shots, but I don't really consider him a great defensive (or offensive) player. Sometimes previous reputation plays a bigger role than actual performance. I think I would have chosen Yogi, who plays great defense, especially with the contact he is allowed.

yeah...Hammonds defensive player of the year is a stretch...He plays about 23-24 minutes a night...and he's not blocking shots at the three point line like Uthoff. I'm not getting this one. Uthoff was probably the best off ball defender in the league this year.

Besides Jok, how many of those guys return next year? I hear that Hayes will go. Does Tremble go pro? Jok should be next year's preseason POY.

You'd think three 1st team appearances by three different players, all recruited by the existing staff should pay off with improved recruiting. We'll see. We obviously landed one big and one bigger than average fish this year and a couple of potential guys. Couple of good classes in a row. Might take an even bigger step forward next season.

Nigel Hayes and Menlo Trimble could be on an NBA team. Neither of them will get any meaningful playing time in the NBA.

Pretty sad deal Clemmons didn't make it on the all defense team. I know preseason he was pretty adamant on that being one of his goals for this year. Holding Forbes to 5 points TOTAl in both games this year is all the reason you would need for throwing him on there. Going to be hard to see Sapp go. Love that kid.

Clemmons deserves the DPOY far more than Hammons who, especially for his size, has been underwhelming all season in part-time duty. Clemmons shut down MSU's Forbes twice, among others, and Forbes, I hear, just made a million threes in a recent game. Whether it's Clemmons or not, there has to be a better choice for the defensive award than Hammons.

Fan selfishness aside, I think Nigel would benefit from another year at Wisconsin. With next years returning team, he would have a change to improve his midrange jump shot and his chances of ultimately landing in the NBA. With Rashard Griffith back on campus to finish his degree (and Michael Finley back last week to promote his Foundation) I imagine there have and will be further opportunities for candid discussions. Nevertheless, my sensation is that he will go this year.

Based on stats alone, a case could be made for Ethan Happ.

Looks like Gesell and Woodbury both made Honorable Mention for the Media Team.

Congrats to them. And agreed with the posters who said that Sapp should have been on the All-Defensive team. Think he deserved it, but isn't one of the better-known players in the Big Ten. Good years, and good careers to Mike, Sapp, Uthoff, and Woody.

It doesn't seem like guards get on the all defensive team no matter how good they are. It seems the criteria that voters look for in defence is rebounds, steals and blocked shots. A guard can get steals that show in the box score but rebounding and blocked shots aren't their main task. I know when Chris Babb was a good defender for Iowa State he always guarded the opponents best guard or small forward effectively yet didn't make the all defensive team probably because the blue collar work doesn't show much in the box score.

Congrats to Jarrod and Peter for their well deserved recognition. Kind of hoping Mike and Woody would have made the third team. I completely agree Sapp should have been the defensive POY.

Good point... Unless your name is Aaron Craft :)

Yogi and Raphael Davis are guards, and Davis was defensive POY last year. Maybe just tough competition at guard, since both of those guys are great defensive players. Honestly, I think Sapp and Mike both should have received serious consideration for the all-defensive team.
