Wife (no pics) grew up in Indiana so we're heading there. Got a place to stay just outside of path of totality so where we end up will depend on the weather

We are going to try and see it too. Just taking our regular driving vacation earlier so if it is cloudy we still have things to do. (Maybe attempt to visit Big Bend National Park in Texas which they tell you only to attempt in Spring or Fall.)

Barely over a week away! Current plan is to stay in the Ozarks and drive to southern MO or IL to catch it. Hope the weather holds! Showing partly cloudy right now.

I was just looking at Southern Illinois. Could have rain. I'd be prepared to relocate on this one as it gets close.

Not sure where I'm going to end up.

Yeah, other than Indiana, IL & MO (mayyyybe OH) I don't have a lot of options, probably won't go much further than that. Keep the updates coming please! I know you're good with weather maps and probabilities - your thunderstorms thread is what reminded me ;)

Doing this but near St Louis. Got a room for the 7th. Get up early and look for clear skies and drive that way
Yep, was going to do the exact same, South or East of St Louis - big enough area to not have hotel prices increased 400%. We'll see!

Who is going?

Looks like cloudy forecasts along most of the view area, all the way down to DFW...

Another tip:

No need to be "on" the centerline for totality. Even halfway between the centerline and an edge will provide >3 minutes of totality (4 min totality along the center, high 3 minutes even if you get fairly close to the edge.

Anyone will remember 1-2 minutes of totality. You won't really notice much difference between 3 minutes and 4 minutes of totality.

Zoom in on your exact location, and you can identify the precise start/stop time for totality where you are

Traffic will be hell so plan accordingly. I rented an AirBnb over six months ago - got a message a few weeks ago that they were "no longer listing" that property. Yeah...I got it for $500 for two nights. Nothing around there now is going for less than $1200.

I was able to find a hotel room in Louisville but it will significantly impact travel time and our ability to chase good weather. We may be watching from the side of the interstate.

FYI, your next chance for a TSE in the continental US is August 12, 2045

And, that one being in the fall, is much less likely to be impacted by cloud cover. Plus, being east-west track, it will be an easier bet on where there will be clear skies

We're also staying in St. Louis on the 7th. Planning on heading to Carbondale, IL in the morning but will audible if necessary.

Latest Canadian GDPS cloud forecast not looking promising...

NWS cloud forecast for noon CDT has a couple open pockets; the forecast for 3 hrs later (3PM CDT, or 1 hr after the eclipse) looks just like this Canadian one - all clouds from the TX border all the way up to Lake Erie in OH.

Looks a little better this morning. Going to be tough to gauge, may change right up until go time :(
