Are American values something the POTUS lives by?

Although the Obama administration currently refuses to temporarily pause its Syrian refugee resettlement program in the United States, the State Department in 2011 stopped processing Iraq refugee requests for six months after the Federal Bureau of Investigation uncovered evidence that several dozen terrorists from Iraq had infiltrated the United States via the refugee program.

After two terrorists were discovered in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 2009, the FBI began reviewing reams of evidence taken from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that had been used against American troops in Iraq. Federal investigators then tried to match fingerprints from those bombs to the fingerprints of individuals who had recently entered the United States as refugees:

An intelligence tip initially led the FBI to Waad Ramadan Alwan, 32, in 2009. The Iraqi had claimed to be a refugee who faced persecution back home — a story that shattered when the FBI found his fingerprints on a cordless phone base that U.S. soldiers dug up in a gravel pile south of Bayji, Iraq on Sept. 1, 2005. The phone base had been wired to unexploded bombs buried in a nearby road.

An ABC News investigation of the flawed U.S. refugee screening system, which was overhauled two years ago, showed that Alwan was mistakenly allowed into the U.S. and resettled in the leafy southern town of Bowling Green, Kentucky, a city of 60,000 which is home to Western Kentucky University and near the Army’s Fort Knox and Fort Campbell. Alwan and another Iraqi refugee, Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, 26, were resettled in Bowling Green even though both had been detained during the war by Iraqi authorities, according to federal prosecutors.

The terrorists were not taken into custody until 2011. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. State Department stopped processing refugee requests from Iraqis for six months in order to review and revamp security screening procedures:

As a result of the Kentucky case, the State Department stopped processing Iraq refugees for six months in 2011, federal officials told ABC News – even for many who had heroically helped U.S. forces as interpreters and intelligence assets. One Iraqi who had aided American troops was assassinated before his refugee application could be processed, because of the immigration delays, two U.S. officials said. In 2011, fewer than 10,000 Iraqis were resettled as refugees in the U.S., half the number from the year before, State Department statistics show.

According to a 2013 report from ABC News, at least one of the Kentucky terrorists passed background and fingerprint checks conducted by the Department of Homeland Security prior to being allowed to enter the United States. Without the fingerprint evidence taken from roadside bombs, which one federal forensic scientist referred to as “a needle in the haystack,” it is unlikely that the two terrorists would ever have been identified and apprehended.

“How did a person who we detained in Iraq — linked to an IED attack, we had his fingerprints in our government system — how did he walk into America in 2009?” asked one former Army general who previously oversaw the U.S. military’s anti-IED efforts.

President Barack Obama has thus far refused bipartisan calls to pause his administration’s Syrian refugee program, which many believe is likely to be exploited by terrorists seeking entry into the United States. The president has not explained how his administration can guarantee that no terrorists will be able to slip into the country by pretending to be refugees, as the Iraqi terrorists captured in Kentucky did in 2009. One of those terrorists, Waad Ramadan Alwan, even came into the United States by way of Syria, where his fingerprints were taken and given to U.S. military intelligence officials.

Obama has also refused to explain how his administration’s security-related pause on processing Iraq refugee requests in 2011 did not “betray our deepest values.”

This article seems to show Obama in a good light, but you don't appear to see it that way. When there were security problems, Obama paused and fixed them. When there are not, he continues with the process that takes 2 years to complete. Those are some fine American values I think. Oh and in case you missed it, 2005 was under Bush. Its his fault that data wasn't in the system. Obama is forever cleaning up after that man.

We don't have security problems right now?

Do we? The article didn't make that case, can you?
Do any of the lefties understand how an enemy works? Obviously not as you all turn a blind eye, I understand you are just sitting around knowing that your "wing nut" friends will come and protect you.

I get it, none of you can defend yourselves and thus the reason you all blindly believe what the potus says. It's okay we understand you are weak and needy. Please just sit back and let us protect you as it has proven throughout time you are weak in stature but strong with words.

Amen.

It does feel good knowing you're looking out for me. The Hawks sure weren't tonight. If I wasn't on mobile I'd post some boobs for your efforts. Into the breach my brother!

It must be exhausting living with so much paranoia. You're letting the terrorists dictate your life and cloud your thought process. Don't let them.

The terrorist wife in San Bernadino beat the two year Visa vetting process with false information that should have been easily detected.

The Visa process is the same process as our current refugee process.

That would qualify as a recent, valid security concern.

No and anyone who denies that is a fool. Obama does not believe in American values nor a great America. He is the antithesis to that opinion. Americans are in a really bad spot right now. A President that hates America, 20-30% of an American populace (a lot higher on these boards) that hates America, and a mainstream media that hates America. Bad deal.

Not exhausting at all - not much different than working out 5 days a week to keep illness at bay. Not paranoid about illness, just like to be proactive to do what I can to ensure I am able to be here for my family. Same can be said for honing my shooting skills, making sure I do what I can to ensure my families safety (no paranoia on the terrorists either)

Liberal thinking is killing you faster than Conservative thinking will me. YOu sit around and hope that others take care of things for you. I on the other hand hold myself accountable (and I know that personal accountability is a four letter word for Libs) for my families well being and safety.

God bless!

Remember we have no new ideas. But God forbid we review the current process to ensure the safety of our own.
The POTUS (and the Left on this board) is more concerned with the safety and well being of non-Americans than of Americans.

"Look a Muslim wore a US uniform and died for us" - look again and you see several that were trained that turned their guns on us! A little nugget he failed to include with his statement.

This is clearly one of these issues where it is smart to put a public face that is different from a private face. The rhetoric is on welcoming refugees, but the practice of allowing them in will be highly scrutinized behind the scenes. OP probably doesn't understand these subtleties so mom and dad (AKA mom and her brother) might have to explain it to him.

You make a hell of a lot of incorrect assumptions. I'm a gun owning hunter who also believes in The Constitution and American values. Xenophobia and bigotry are not amongst those. Seeing the world in black and white must suck about as bad as the paranoia.

I've done a lot of googling. This entire story hinges around one article. The ABC article above. And the article doesn't even give specifics, just unnamed sources along with no leads. Sounds fishy to me.

There's no history of this ever happening in Obama's EO list from 2011. There's no Congressional passing of such a measure. All we've got is one single ABC article. I'm going to need more than that.

So you ever going to get back to us, vroom, that this entire story seems built around one unidentified source in one article, written by ABC several years ago?

Still waiting on any of the wingers to give specifics on this beyond a single unidentified blurb written several years ago that has never been expanded on since.

Jesus H fellas.

I'm a born and raised American from the heartland, pray tell, what values do you think I'm required to have?

Since none of the wingers got back to this thread, is it safe to assume this story is bullshit?

Where did you crawl out of?
