If by self-deprecating, you actually mean we are our own worst critics then yes absolutely.

I've seen other fanbases (blue bloods even) meltdown on the national board, even after wins because they're afraid of what might trigger "that next painful loss"........but we are by far the worst offenders of this.

And people who haven't seen how other fanbases meltdown can't understand just why we are truly the worst at this.

It's also too late to change too, unless Iowa starts winning championships (plural) within the next 5-10 years, which I'm just sure is gonna start happening with the arrival of a new decade!! :)

I did know what you meant, sorry to call you out. I think you are generally close to being correct, but i dont think we are the worst, maybe top/bottom 20%.
No problem. I was struggling to find a good term to describe it properly. I just find it odd both from personal and social media experience how our fans interact compared to other schools

Lol. You live in the midwest....right?

Nothing new. The national media has less to benefit from giving props to any team (including Iowa) in comparison to a school on the east coast or another larger metro area. Cater to who pays the bills?

Self loathing.

And no, people are people. It's not likely Iowa fans possess unique personality traits compared to the rest of college football fans.

How about cobbers or clowns? The only difference is the cobbers have a free board we ca visit and the clowns you have to pay to see their bored.

Iowa fans, as a group are about as level headed and reasonable as they come.

Don't let the outliers and fringe folks dictate your viewpoint. Most Hawk fans know exactly who we are.

Hawk fans as a whole suck....look no more than Connor McCaffery. Kid plays his ass off every night and fans pick on every single thing. We are 25 in country and fans still crush the players and coaching staff....comical

Self deprecation is being critical of one's self, especially in humor. I don't know how many people beat themselves up on these boards, but I've seen many casualties as a result of opposite behavior.
