Are transgender identifying people "born that way" in the sense that it's hardwired into their brains that they won't feel "right" until they transition?

Born that way in the sense that we generally believe straight people and gay people are "born that way" in regards to what they find attractive.

The correct answer isn't one a certain group, that isn't the majority of human beings, wants to hear...........but that's not gonna stop them from believing what they want and pushing whatever agenda/ideal they want. :D

I just think it's a really muddy, unclear thing. And I don't think there is much universal agreement.

Certainly I'm not doubting some people enjoy living as a transgendered person. And it's not a moral question anyway. So on that front, whatever, neither here nor there.

But is there really any fundamental difference between a "butch" male thinking/behaving lesbian and one that's the exact same way but for the decision to remove their breasts and label themselves transgendered?

Are they really different from the perspective of any inherent attribute; was the one that considers themselves trans "born that way"? Is there a trans module somewhere in the brain?

I think you already know the answer. We just don't like offending people......

NPR article just claimed 3% of youth claim to be.
Sometimes it’s a fad with young ones. Some of my young friends have had some weird ideas. So much is experimentation.

But I did have a student that wanted to transition 25 years ago. She was 14. Her mother was amazing through the years until it was done.

We didn’t like it, but we loved the person.

Sure. I think it's easy to say that if 3 percent of youth are saying they're trans, it's really unlikely all of them are.

I think everybody has to admit there is some level of fad or experimentation associated with that number.

But then you have kids that exhibit the idea early -- say as a 4 year old -- and stick with it, eventually transitioning and seemingly happy with the decision.

We don't have anything definitive scientifically, but the before mentioned scenario would seem to be about as authentically trans as you can get. Not that it answers the niggling question posed in the poll.

The answer is in the poll, though........ ;)

1.6% of the population is Trans yet you seem to be consumed with gender dysphoria. Have you ever considered seeing someone who can help you with this?

I think there is obviously no question whatsoever that an overwhelming percentage of the people who "discover" they are trans as preteens/teens after showing no signs of it previously are wrestling with a host of emotions and are not trans. There is clearly a social contagion element, and anyone who doesn't think there are a whole host of incentives (to go along with the disincentives) is being ignorant.

On the other hand...I have heard way too many stories of children self identifying as the other gender from basically the time they can verbally communicate. Yes, I know that a two year old can decide they are a dragon one day, but let's not be reductive. When a toddler tells you over and over again "mom I'm not a boy I'm a girl" and fully identifies with girls clothing and sticks with it months after months, there is something there. It's a small amount of kids obviously, but we need to have a path forward of some kind of accommodation for children that identify that way at a young age.

I believe there's a small percentage that truly have a chemical make up that would classify as transgender. I believe a larger percentage have a social contagion and they tend to be the vocal, can't be reasoned with, social justice warrior type.

What I don't understand is why don't we treat that chemical make up to lean into the biological sex that they are as opposed to the one they aren't? Looks like pushing a boulder up hill, when you could just work with the natural make up of the body. But I'm no physiologist, I'm sure it's not that simple.

For the record the GOP's handling of this is atrocious. There are a thousand more important things in need of governance.

That goes for Dems as well, such a stupid hill to die on - and yes, Harris did partially die on this hill because of her historical statement on prisoner sex change federal funding.

The world is not black and white. There are shades of gray. Many years ago when I was still living in Iowa my gf at the time worked with a gay dude. He really put it in perspective for me, he said why would I choose to be this way? The hate and ridicule these people face is atrocious. All I know is, there is one race and that’s the human race. We should all be more accepting and tolerant of others.

The idea that people would literally choose to deal with everything that goes with being trans is just dumb. I never chose to be straight or to identify as male and I've never heard anyone make the claim that they did.
This line of thinking has always bothered me. There are all kinds of people out there that do all kinds of weird stuff. Some people ink up their entire bodies, or pierce the cap out of it. All kinds of things that I sit here and go, “Why in the world would you put yourself through that?!?”.

People (especially people that are having difficulty fitting into mainstream society) will do almost anything to carve out a subculture where their kink will be accepted. This is no different.

I feel the same way about Autism. People just looking for a way to fit in with a crowd.

That fine but keep your swinging dick out of the little girls bathroom and locker room.

I’m sure that this isn’t a popular opinion, but I do think some of growing trans numbers amongst youth is because of a fad of sorts. I could be wrong and maybe I am. I am accepting of anyone that is a good human being. That means more to me than anything else.
