Or can I talk national champions? Inquiring minds must know. Besides, I need to make sure I have my :eek::eek::eek::eek: emoticons ready to go, in case there's still trouble.

And I'm not talking about "there's still work to be done", I'm talking about 5-page threads kind of trouble.

Well?.gif

I really think Iowa is under the radar, but far from trouble. Maybe the proper nomenclature should be; Iowa is going to cause some trouble?

I think you can forget scoring at a few weights, and depending on injuries, can have a bunch of finalists. Tough to predict, but far from in trouble unless you want to guarantee a title.

Some say guarantee, I prefer inevitable.

If trouble means being ranked 2nd-4th at the start of the season and still being ranked 2nd-4th, then no, we're not in trouble. If trouble means not being favored to win an NCAA title for the 6th straight year, then yes.

This.

This season we're on course to finish where expected. The "trouble" is that we are no longer ever expected to win. And we're definitely in trouble of remaining that way for the foreseeable future.

I have a feeling this group is going to buck the recent trend and actually raise their game at Nationals rather than imploding. There have been recent years where it didn't matter much, due to the size of PSU's lead, but there have been years where we had the goods to win it all but underperformed. And there was the injury-riddled tournament where McD, Evans, and Telford all succumbed to physical ailments as much as, if not more than, their competition. This group has a different feel. I think they'll surprise some folks.

And as well they should.

# strongly recommended......

The biggest thing we need to do to have a shot is keep everyone healthy. If we have everyone healthy we have a very good shot to win.

Ya, Im sure that the reason this team is stuck in the mud for 3rd place every year now! It couldnt have anything to do with Cael outrecruiting us 2 complete studs to 1 every year (and few years we didnt even have that 1) and for the most part his wrestlers putting more points on the board. They just have more deep horse bonafide finalists and thats where the points are. Example Zain will cruise through his side of the bracket into the finals, likely some good bonus points. Wheras we will be on the edge of our seat watching Sorenson geek out a close QTR and SEMI wins to make the finals. Sorenson is to good to just geek wins out but that what it will be. So why does he? Gilman seems to be the only one who gets the KaBoom thing.

Really your just insane if you dont see PSU having a much better chance of 5 finalist (Nico/Zain/Nolf/Nickal/McIntosh) with 3 champs. (Zain/Nolf/Nickal) Ok lets say only 2 champs. Its still likely tied with OK State or Ohio St for most probable team champs with 2 but they have more finalist points than anyone. And thats not even including all the non deep horse AA type points coming from Conaway, Rasheed, McCutcheon.

Iowa finalists at best. Gilman/Clark/Sorenson. Likely Champ is only Gilman.

I dont know how to be more clear. Unless you think Gilman, Sorenson, Meyer and Burak are all going to beat the PSU guy in there bracket. Then your just being a homer or you havent actaully watched PSU wrestle. Or you lied to yourself about what youve been seeing.

Everyone appreciates your honesty until your honest with them. Then your an asshole. I must be an asshole then because I agree with you.:D

Only once in the past ten years has a school other than Iowa scored more than 125 points at NCAAs. That means that, contrary to the narrative, it's not a case of the bar being raised. The bar has stayed the same.

Iowa routinely scored 125+ points during the Gable era. Now it routinely scores 80-85. For a couple of years we blamed it on Taylor and Ruth--"a perfect storm." Now? Retheford, Nolf and Nickal?

The blame lies with Iowa. The title is still there for the taking with 125 points. We're just not taking it because we have too few champs. Envision our current lineup but with a multi-time champ at 157 and an undefeated freshman at 165--that's what our lineups of the '80s looked like. That's the 40 points we're now missing every year.

Nothing above is particularly controversial. Look up the scores yourself.

Why do we not have enough champs? Why have we not had more than one champ in a single season since 2010 (MM, BM, JB)? Why have we not had a multi-time champ since 2012 (MM)? A freshman champ since 2010 (MM)? Why do we not have anyone currently ranked in the top 10 P4P? I have my opinions. It's not my job to solve it, nor am I claiming I'd do a better job than the people who are paid to solve it. Like them, I'm anxious to see it solved.

The good news is it's solvable, because we've done it before, many times.
