Are you ready for some Basketball!

I'm with you Perry.
What's going on at Wisconsin? I've read they have the 6th best class for 2020 and the number 1 class for 2021.

Perry may have his own take, but it reflects verbal commitments to Wisconsin by nine well regarded recruits in the most recent 12 month period. Obviously, these ratings can and will likely change before letter of intent signing dates but it appears these will be strong classes, regardless of their final ratings.
Unfortunately, none of them will be on the floor this season as the Badgers have a few injury/eligibity question marks as of this date. There was an open campus tryout last Wednesday.

Got my flight to Vegas and hotel room already booked. I can’t wait for late November. I just hope they can repeat their NYC trip from last year.

We are staying at PH. Also playing golf Friday and Saturday mornings. Is there an iclub game watch?

Hooters is the Iclub home, but I’m not positive which Hooters it is.

Staying at Park MGM for the first part of the trip and then move to Bally’s for work. Going out for 13 days. I hope I bring enough Paigow money.

13 days???

I feel like I am teetering on death after 3 days

Yeah not 100% thrilled about it, but we should see.

The basketball games butted up with a work trip, so there was no sense in flying back for the weekend. We go out every year for a week for work and by the 7th day, I’m done. It should be interesting.

Thursday arrival
Thursday evening hoops games
Go out
Friday 7am tee time Rio Secca
Friday 1130am football game watch
Friday evening games
Go out
Saturday morning Cascata
Saturday afternoon death

I’d need a large bankroll if I was going for 13 days even if I was only playing Pai Gow. I love that game. You can play for hours on a small sum of money if you play conservative. It’s the only game my wife will play. We usually plan on $500 per person per day and hope to come home with most of it. I really wish we could go for this tourney.

Fran, Luka and Joe W. talked with Dave Revsine at B1G media days. A few interesting tidbits:

1. Bohannon: Fran said it's possible Bohannon could play this season, and one option is for him to come back midway through the non-conference schedule.

2. Patrick: Joe said Patrick's length makes him very effective at the top of the press. Patrick guards Joe tough in practice and is great at contesting his shot. Luka praised Patrick's confidence and skill and said he impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Sounds like P-Mac will be able to contribute a lot this season.

3. Nunge: Garza said Jack has been pushing him in practice. He's taller than LG (which a lot of people suspected but it was interesting to hear confirmed by Luka), and has gotten a lot stronger. Garza said he's one of the most improved players on the team. Stronger, more mobile, shooting it well. Very good to hear.

Last time they played there they had a Hawk Huddle in the Orleans prior to the first game, so maybe they will do that on Friday as a game watch as well. Would be a great way for people to be able to do both without having to change destinations for the hoops game.

Not wanting to mess your board up with Wisconsin recruiting stuff but we only have the the one 2019 kid that will see the floor this year.
Tyler Wahl 6'7" Kind of a cross of Joe Krabbenhoft and Robbie Hummel..fingers crossed!! We did pick up Micah Potter as a transfer from TOSU. 6'9" Hoping he will be eligible prior to Jan but don't know yet as he was denied but elgibility was appealed. Never had open try outs but signed another walk-on as a towel waiver but a good locker room guy.

2020 has been good. 5 recruits Ben Carlson 6'9" 4* Johnny & Jordan (bros)Davis 6'5" 3* Lorne Bowman 6'2" 3* Steven Crowl 6'10" 3*

2021 also good. 3 recruits Matt Mors 6'7" 4* Chucky Hepburn 6'1" 4* and Chris Hodges 6'8" 4*

I am no expert by any means, so take this for what it's worth (not sure that you were even asking me this question)....it appears to me that they have had good success getting commits over two or three classes...but the level of recruit is about normal for them. I think the reason their 2020 class is rated as high as it is, is primarily due to the fact that really no other B10 teams (outside of MSU) have many (if any) recruits committed at this point? I think it's just numbers right now and that it will settle about where it usually does...that's my guess.

You are absolutely correct. It is a numbers game to be sure. The recruits are about on par with past performance or slightly higher. The really interesting thing about it is that the staff did it short handed with the tragic Howard Moore accident. Lots of heavy hearts in Madison over this tragedy. This is not a normal recruiting cycle for the program to put it lightly. Again, sorry for butting in.

Good information...thanks for sharing. That is a tragic loss....there's really no words that do justice. Feel terrible for all those affected.

I know expectations among the "experts" is somewhat minimal ... I've been down on Iowa basketball for some time (frustration more than anything). On paper, I like the makeup of this team. Excited to see what the new players bring to the table. Excited to see how Garza and Weiz do ... I think there is talent ... I think if anything this will be a fun team to watch.

I'm not as sold on Wahl as some others. He played on D1 Minnesota with Pat Mccaffery and Wahl was kind of an afterthought, averaging 6 ppg. Pat averaged 10 ppg for them.

Maybe because Wahl took 27 less shots and had 16 more assists (3.1 per game, 2nd on the team)?

You are really bad at this.

Did Rodman only average 1 rebound per game more than Del Negro?

You're missing the whole point though bud. This Wisconsin guy was talking about Wahl potentially being a big factor this season. I said I'm skeptical.

I don't see Pat being much more than a Baer type reserve this year. Both could be good in a year or two but I don't see a huge contribution as a starter from either right away. There was some talk that Pat may even redshirt, and he's a higher rated recruit by most scouts than Wahl.

13 days? Good lord! 5 is my maximum in Vegas. I really love it but............

Is there another Div 1 mbb team with a worse PR department? No open practice, no hype videos nothing nothing nothing. If they don’t care about fans why should we care about them? Gave up season tickets this year- screw them.

It’s going to really be bad if I run out of money by the 4th day. I’ve got the MGM app and may have to focus more on the sportsbooks and less on the table games.

The family will be out there for the first part, but I’ll be out there the second week with friends (co workers). Plus Iowa will have two more b-ball games. The second week is completely paid for (minus drinks), but it’s mainly a shit show. Usually a lot of fun. Also, I’ve got buddy coming up from AZ to stay for the weekend.

I just can’t wait for basketball to start.

That . . . seems like a bit of an overreaction

I agree with you on Wahl. He was very high on Iowa State's Recruiting Board for a long time but as he got further along into his HS Career Iowa State started to cool on him and went more aggressive towards Luke Anderson. Watching both in highlight videos it's not hard to see why.

The guy claims to have given up his season tickets because Iowa didn’t put out a hype video this year and didn’t hold an open practice.

Also he asked if there’s a worse PR dept in division 1 mens basketball. He would like to why we fans should care about the basketball team, when they don’t care about us. How he came to that conclusion is beyond me.

He’s being a bit over the top by claiming to give up season tickets as a result but it’s hard to argue with him that Iowa does nearly nothing to generate hope, enthusiasm and anticipation towards the upcoming basketball season, especially for university students. We have had a long standing problem of lack of student support for basketball. If I were the AD I’d be pulling out the stops to get student butts in seats. Our administration doesn’t seem to give a shit so these generations of students and then eventually their kids will have zero interest for the rest of their lives.

Uh, no. Apathy among students has very little to do with what the AD is doing and more to do with the short attention span theatre known as college life. Just less attention on sports by students than there used to be.

I just don’t think we try very hard at all to get students involved and engaged in the university athletic programs and the results of that disengagement could be profound down the road.
