Louisiana - President Obama said taking away our guns will make us safer. Some news reporters said the same thing. They say a good guy with a gun never stops a bad guy with a gun. Well isn’t this a surprise. Here are five examples of self-defense that happened within the last month. They show people who not only stopped a criminal and saved lives.

These armed civilians might have stopped mass murder!

1- Katie and Matt Klaxon were filling up their car at a Springfield, Missouri gas station. Their four children were in the car as well. Matt was pumping gas when a stranger approached Katie who was still sitting in the car. The stranger opened the car door and threatened Katie with a large knife. Katie called for Matt who then drew his Beretta pistol and told the man to leave. The assailant said Quote “You’re lucky he has a gun,” as he closed the car door and backed away. The couple called police and kept an eye on the man who tried to open other car doors. The assailant was arrested by police.

2- A mother of four used a gun to save her children and herself from three armed home invaders. Security camera video shows three men kicking in the back door of this home outside Dayton, Ohio. The armed thieves held the woman and her four children at gunpoint. The thieves hit the homeowner in the head and face with their guns and demanded she open her husband’s safe. The homeowner grabbed her gun as the thieves emptied the safe. She shot one of the thieves and all three tried to make their escape. The wounded criminal died outside the home still clutching his firearm.

3- Two teenagers wearing masks walked into a Chicago liquor store. One of them hopped over the counter and started beating the store clerk. The other robber remained in front of the counter. A relative of the store owner heard a commotion from upstairs and saw the robbery suspects when he looked down from a stairwell. The family member pulled his gun. He shot and killed the two thieves. Police suspect the two criminals had robbed at least two other stores in the area. The liquor store was robbed several years ago. Police said the armed employee in the liquor store would probably not face charges.

4- A mother alone with her three children spotted an intruder in her yard. She called 911, but the police would take many minutes to arrive at this remote home outside Austin, Texas. The intruder tried the front door, but that was locked. The intruder then broke through the kitchen door. The homeowner said she was armed, but the intruder would not leave. He stopped advancing after she shot him once. The mother said, “I kept telling him to get out of my house and that I have a gun. I’m convinced I did the right thing. He made the choice to come into my house. He was not going to get past me to get to my children.” Emergency medical services transported the wounded intruder to the hospital by helicopter. The intruder is expected to survive and will face charges when he is released.

5- Two men entered a mobile T-Mobile phone store in Chicago. For a few minutes, they shopped for phones. Then they pulled out guns and started robbing the place. One of the store employees has his concealed carry permit and was armed. He presented his own handgun and shot the two robbers. He hit one robber in the groin and the arm, and the other in the abdomen and the arm. The thieves were able to run from the store while another store employee following them outside and gave police their description. The thieves drove to a nearby hospital where police took them into custody.

The store manager said, “I think concealed carry is a great opportunity for managers, workers and employees to protect themselves. Our employee did a great job to protect himself and others.” Local businessmen said the cell phone store had been robbed several times in the last month. A regional manager for T-Mobile, said the company allows employees with concealed carry licenses to have weapons at work.

Politicians and the news media says it doesn’t happen, but armed citizens defend themselves every day. You always suspected that was true. Now you know.

I report on citizen self-defense every week. My list of armed citizens stopping mass murder in December is here.

Just stop. Your normally crazy message is becoming dangerous advice.

This country does not need more guns or armed half wits firing off bullets like they're cowboys.

Well the first two sentences were total bullshit, and it seems to have been written by a 2nd grader, but other than that just a dynamite article. Now let me ask you, how does a common sense law to attempt to keep guns out of the hands of criminals by expanding background checks change any of these scenarios? Answer: It doesn't, but it might make it harder for the bad guys to get one. So it makes you safer if you're a responsible gun owner.

Good to know you have the list of half wits and cowboys so we know who to take the guns from.

When somebody is suggesting we leave the police out all together, I don't need a list. That person is suggesting illegally acting as law enforcement.
Your missing the part about the police aren't there at exactly the right time every time.

It's that part that reads,"shall not be infringed", that I'm stuck on.

It's that part that reads,"shall not be infringed", that I'm stuck on.
But where do you draw the line with that quoted part (Shall not be infringed)?
Certainly, a convicted felon cannot legally own a gun. His right to keep and bear arms has been infringed. Are you okay with that?

I kept waiting to read about the planned mass murder that they stopped and not some random dumbass criminal that was shot.

But where do you draw the line with that quoted part (Shall not be infringed)?

I don't always agree with the SCOTUS but I respect it's decisions as the law of the land . I respect that women have the right to privacy in health care issues as abortion, I respect that the ACA is legal, I respect that individuals have the right to keep and bear arms outside of a militia, but those right can be restricted to non-felons per DC V Heller and I respect that to ban a firearm you need to prove that it wouldn't be useful in the military or a militia per US v Miller.

The discussions on gun rights would be a lot simpler if everyone on both sides would respect what the SCOTUS has already made a decision on.

But where do you draw the line with that quoted part (Shall not be infringed)?
Certainly, a convicted felon cannot legally own a gun. His right to keep and bear arms has been infringed. Are you okay with that?
You make a good point. Depends on the felony charge. If the felon was convicted of bringing violence to society, then yes...infringe away.

You'll never know because they were stopped. That's kind of the point.

That's all sorts of stupid. Can you point out which mass shooter in the past started out his killing spree by stealing some 40's from a liquor store or grabbing some cell phones? I'll wait.

But where do you draw the line with that quoted part (Shall not be infringed)?

I'm not. Once the debt to society is paid all rights should be restored. Not allowing ex felons to own guns or vote is wrong.

Okay, that's helpful. Just trying to see where the parameters of your thinking lay. The main point of my post, though not obvious, was to eventually discern whether Obama's EO, purporting to strengthen background checks for gun owners but not prevent gun ownership, would really amount to "infringing on the right to keep and bear arms."

The headline is false; these people stopped robberies not mass murders.

The first three sentences are lies.

The rest of the article consists of interesting anecdotes.

I'm not. Once the debt to society is paid all rights should be restored. Not allowing ex felons to own guns or vote is wrong.

Giving up certain rights permanently is part of paying their debt to society. For the record, I agree with you on voting, but not on allowing convicted violent felons to own guns.
