They cant get to Iowa City only on 4 different planes. Some wouldve had to go to Chicago and drive. The AD wasnt comfortable with everyone splitting up

That's wild. I wonder how that happened. Used to live in Corvo for 5 years and went to a couple of their duals, I was really looking forward to this match.

What a mess! And not even snowing!
I’m guessing the person responsible for making the airline reservations may have hit a dispensary that day before work.

(I’d like to think it was for personal consumption, but these days they might be going to work late after stopping in a dispensary for an adult child who lives at home and just prefers not to drive.)

Because that’s the world we live in…

That or capable employees are being fired or forced to quit their jobs at the airlines, causing flight cancellations and making air travel to be a mess. Because that's the world we live in...

Pretty f'n badass of Army to step in on such short notice. Probably not many teams that would do that, especially against the top team in the Nation.

Unfortunately, I can't make the meet on Sunday, but hoping the fans give them a warm welcome.

So not understanding OSUs travel arrangements. So were they planning on flying to Iowa on 4 separate small planes, and if so, not sure why they could not have made it directly to Iowa City? I guess it is the end of Thanksgiving weekend so maybe the commercial flight availability wasn't there. Just odd.

They were booked out of one airport to fly United and get a connection. That plane had issues so they wouldve missed the connection. They were then booked for the next day out of a different airport. The planes didnt have seats so they were going to be put on 4 different planes one which was gonna go to Chicago the other 3 to Iowa. They decided against doing that and now Army is coming.

Whomever all helped pull this together are my heros today. I’m guessing there was a significant amount of administrative work (Iowa & Army) that needed done in a short amount of time and people worked hard to make this happen.

I can’t wait to watch Army with my boys. It’s going to be awesome watching these guys scrap and sharing all the things they do for us when they’re not training.

so are all the tickets just automatically good for Sunday? I can probably make the trip on Sunday to take my 8 yr old to his first meet. I see some tickets available on the secondary market but the all are for Oregon St. and was curious how that would be handled. I’m sure I missed a press release somewhere.

It didn’t make any sense to me either so like the arrogant dickhead traveler I am, I jumped on airline apps last night thinking they were full of it. Turns out it’s a mess to get to even ORD from out there let alone CID. And there weren’t a lot of seats available for a wrestling team, coaches and support staff. So I actually get it.

Unfortunately this might be a new normal. Teams are going to have to consider earlier travel plans if flights are involved.

I wonder how that grapevine grew?

How did the Army coaches find out about the Beavers’ travel misadventures?

Too bad they didn’t just say, “F¥<k it… we’ll send a C31 to Corvallis for the Beavers if you invite us to a triangular in IC on Sunday.”

I don't know about this. Be careful of a standing ovation for Army that lasts longer than Eierman's. Would hate to see another troll thread on Iowa wrestling fan's having hypocritical or skewed priorities. ;)
Good point. Ironbird clearly does not understand that more and louder clapping and cheering by a crowd is by no means a reflection of the crowd's appreciation. No correlation whatsoever there. Ironbird likely lives in the fantasy land where golf claps communicate less crowd approval than sustained clapping, which in turn communicates less crowd pleasure and approval than a standing ovation or frenzied fan yelling and stomping. Ironbird is an idiot.

Everyone knows that the polite, yet tepid, Carver 3-clap applause for a Lofthouse, Evans, or Warner snoozefest 4-2 win meant that the fans were equally thrilled with and appreciative of those victories as they were when Carver exploded in ovation for Alex Meyer over Mark Hall, Ramos over Oliver and Gulibon, and Kemerer over Hall. Thanks, 98#er, for stepping in with the communications lesson that cheering really communicates nothing at all.

What is he referring to? Surely not a thread originally expressing, in part, surprise that Carver cheered longer and louder for its first home-dual sighting of the women's coach than for its first home-dual sighting of Jaydin and the other returning 2020 national champions.

Post 8, has the video of the army coach talking about how they got a call from Tom Brands.

My understanding is Oregon State had tickets in advance, but there was a problem with their plane and that flight was delayed by like 9 hours. That of course invalidated their connecting flights. Then on short notice, they couldn’t get any alternate flights that would work.

That last part was the point. It is harder to find alternate flights than it was a few years ago and this is going to be the new normal. The more a team can plan and travel ahead the lower the margin for error.

Well, pretty piss poor planning on Oregon States part. There were many flights out of Portland to Chicago today. Iowa could have sent two Vans and picked them up
