Arrogant 3 Point Shooters

Cocky 3pt shooters.... WTH?!? Who and what was that guy talking about? That didn't sound like a positive comment to me.

Our guys are cold blooded. You forget one of them, and they'll take you out.... Love it!

I thought the comment was spot on. You question the “cocky 3pt shooters” comment and then you talk about them being cold blooded. That’s EXACTLY what he meant. They give zero effs, if they have a shot they feel good about, they’ll take it. The color guy illustrated it perfectly when Iowa had been scuffling a bit in the 2nd half and Frederick came down and popped a transition 3 with nobody down around the basket to rebound. He didn’t care, he knew he could make the shot.

Confident and cocky are two different things. I've known lots of cocky _______s that have gotten schooled.

A confident shooter is another description entirely.

Regardless, it would have been a better game to watch if the audio went out. ;)

Great win for the Hawks!

They talked later about how many alphas this Iowa team has. The announcers didn’t use your preferred words, but were making the same point. ”Cocky” was absolutely a compliment.

Sounds like confidence to me.

Love it!

I believe Fran would let JoBo, CJF and Weezy shoot 10 each a game as he knows there is a good chance we’ll make at least 33%

Announcers mentioned several times our guys are arrogant 3 point shooters. Meaning they have confidence from anywhere, anytime. One open look and the shot can go down. Great to see that confidence from our guys and for outsiders to notice it in a positive way.
They didn't say arrogant, they said cocky.

Cocky meaning confident and not afraid to let it fly from deep. That's it.

Transition three with no team mate to rebound?,.. Make it and it's confidence,.. Miss it and it's a bad decision...
It's part of the game. Open 3's in transition or in the half court are hard to come by. If I take that shot, it's a bad decision, not so much with good shooters.

If JBo, CJ or Weiskamp want to take open 3's in transition, I'm all for it, and I bet Fran is too.

That’s not how it works. He can take a confident shot and still miss. Doesn’t mean it’s the best decision, though.

He said cocky but then explained his choice of words and it was pretty spot on.

There isn't a single person on Iowa's team that is afraid to shoot the ball. I love it. Puts so much pressure on the other team.

I see what the announcers were saying but don’t think they actually understand what they were saying. Sounded like they just wanted to say shooters are really confident, which would be a good thing.
Or did they mean the shooters have an exaggerated or unrealistic sense of confidence in their shooting (cocky)? That wouldn’t be quite as much of a compliment...

Are you sure?

Coulda swore that they were calling Iowa arrogant defenders. ;)

Cocky by definition means a smug prick... Not confidence... Nor a good shooter.
But I get what y'all are sayin.

When you are trying to tune out a couple of schitty announcers. And only catching a couple of words here and there, things pop out, and don't sound good... Like calling someone a smug prick
.

Not me. I love what ever you call it as they are shooting with muscle memory and not thinking about the shot and having a momentary hesitation. I remember during the Alford and Linkliter years when it always seemed like the players were hesitant to shoot and therefore missed. I am sure most of that was coaching.

Shooters have to be that way and be able to flush a couple of misses in a row. Similar to playing CB in football is how I view it.

It's not about getting "what y'all are saying," it's about understanding the context in which the word was used and how it fits for the game...

..not going to the online dictionary and looking up the literal definition.

Can anyone actually look at JBo and not think he's cockpit? I love having him around, but would probably hate his guts if he played for a rival. That's what I love most about him, he's hated by other teams.
Going by the literal definition of cocky provided by hawktech, I see Jordan Bohannon as a total "smug prick."

I think he seems like a narcissistic douche bag. But, if he keeps making 3's for Iowa basketball, I "like him."

Sooo, in reality its in between. Not bad, not great. I want CJ to shoot everytime he has space.

The color commentator was awful last night. He was continually criticizing Iowa when they were up double digits and then in the last minute of the game said how good they were when it was apparent Iowa was going to win.

I do not want to go back to the Alford era where it always seemed like the shooters hesitated prior to shooting trying to think what the hot shot coach would do. So many lost opportunities on open shots. Don’t like forced shots, but if the defense is out of position and you are hot....shoot it.
