Many churches have an armed group of volunteers who act as a security team during worship. Often they get a cop or a retired cop who is a member to train them.
Honestly the only odd things about this are that they are restricting it to military age men and calling it a militia. But if they said any physically capable man and called it a security team it would be pretty normal.
