Witthoeft, 58, was arrested around 1:45 p.m. for failing to obey police orders and blocking and obstructing roadways, according to a statement from U.S. Capitol Police. The group did not have a permit to demonstrate, the statement said, and and Witthoeft “asked to be arrested.”

As is routine in these types of arrests, she was processed, given a citation to appear in court and released, the statement said.

Witthoeft and her supporters were blocking traffic on Independence Avenue, SW, near First Street, SW., when Capitol Police officers and officials approached the group, directed them to move to the sidewalk and warned that if they did not, they would be arrested, according to the statement.

“We’re not discussing it. Sidewalk now, or you’re under arrest. It’s that simple. We’re not discussing it. We’re not having any discussions. The sidewalk, or you’ll be placed under arrest,” an officer said, according to a video posted of the interaction by News2Share’s Ford Fischer, a documentarian who films political activism.
Witthoeft then turned her back to police and placed her hand behind her back, the video shows. “Go ahead,” the officer said, as officers took Witthoeft by the arms toward a police vehicle.

Babbitt was fatally shot by police on Jan. 6, 2021, as she tried to leap through the broken window of a door inside the Capitol. Witthoeft and supporters shouted Babbitt’s name Friday as officers led Witthoeft into the police vehicle, according to a live stream posted on YouTube.
Earlier in the day, that video showed Witthoeft speaking to supporters outside the U.S. Supreme Court.
“As we stand in front of this building that says ‘equal justice under the law,’ let’s seek that,” she said. “Let’s make that attainable.”

I can appreciate the misery of losing a child. But honestly, I can’t fully imagine the pain a parent must feel.

Still, reality must be accepted. The reality here is the Babbit was on the front line of violent rioters attempting to forcefully enter the House floor occupied by US representatives. She was warned. She is not a martyr. Mom needs an intervention.

She was a terrorist.

We’ll see. There’s still a lot of nut jobs out there.
Sure. But the nut jobs don't want to go to jail.

I think the vast majority of the Jan 6 folks didn't think they'd be going to jail. They miscalculated bigly.

We've seen it with Trumps court cases and indictments....been pretty tame and violence was anticipated/predicted. Didn't materialize.

Not surprising. The family filed a huge lawsuit for wrongful death. So arresting the family only makes sense.

Did they do it again on January 6th, 2024, or did it take you a year to get this much outrage over an event on January 6th, 2023?
Presidential election.

You know the claim..."If Republicans lose, somebody cheated".

Couldn't get them to come out and protest his indictments...
They would likely be more organized but they don't have as much control over the organizations that could stop it. They aren't banking on it getting to that point though. They are putting a lot of effort into disallowing votes in swing states and siphoning off votes on "third party candidates". I'm sure they will try to have shenanigans in the House as well, but the new house should be in session by then and given the redrawing of Districts in New York and Wisconsin it will be a bigger challenge for Republicans to have control there.

No they won't. 300? of them in jail left a mark.

Haven't seen anything even remotely similar since....

You serious? Trump hasn’t lost an election, since.

If he loses in 2024 the result will make 2020 seem tame. Especially his tantrums, state legislators trying to nullify election results, etc. You have to be delusional to think otherwise.

Not really.

Wait. You REALLY don’t think it would be worse this time around? You don’t think for every one person who went to jail there are at least 100 idiots more inspired than ever? For every one low level local official who held out certifying results there won’t be dozens next time? You don’t think state capitols won’t have angry mobs?

Sure, the Capitol will be a fortress this time. And even some states will deploy the National Guard in advance. But the chaos, organized and otherwise, will be far worse.

I mean, think about it. Last time nobody planned anything in advance. It hadn’t occurred to some of these troglodytes to just refuse to certify their precincts’ results. It hadn’t occurred to them to put together fake electors. It was all spur of the moment. Now they are prepared.

If Trump loses it will be far, far worse.

I don’t think so

Nope.

He can’t get his people to show up for his indictments nowadays.
