Assistant coach shake-up at least?

Obviously not calling for Fran's head, but if he truly wants to win at some point I think it's pretty evident that we need to start doing things differently. Speraw and Dillard have been here for 11 years with no conference championships, B1G tourney champs, or sweet 16 appearances. It's time for Fran to start making some tough decisions and shake things up if he wants his time at Iowa to be remembered fondly. Right now all we are is "better than Lick". Just very very frustrating to see our once in a decade team go out with no defense and lack of athleticism that has haunted us in previous tournament appearances.

And sadly we all know how it all turned out, but wait, there's still hope that someday the lightbulb will go off in Fran's head and we will magically make the sweat 16 and beyond on a regularly basis.
I was going to go with John Belushi's pep talk from Animal House, but decided that was too cheesy. I can dream anyway...hears hoping the returning kids work hard in the off season and return with renewed enthusiasm and Covid-19 is just a memory....give me an amen!

It would be nice and needed. Fran needs some fresh new blood in there. We got to washed up yes men in Dillard and Speraw who contribute nothing. You look at other staffs and you a lot with at least one assistant that's his 30s and 40s or others that actually help out and have knowledge with the Xs and Os. Watching a Purdue game they mentioned how Painter has one coach who focuses on Offense and other Defense. During timeout had one of the asst. draw up a play that worked to perfection. Iowa assistants you rarely see do anything during a game. Doubt there is much the players are learning from the likes of ours minus how to pick up girls at the bar from the womanizer Dillard. Only younger guy we had was Francis who left for Cal where he got more responsibilities as the HC top asst. there. But as a seasoned HC as Fran is there is zero reason to have a guy like Speraw be your number 2. Wish he had the Hayden Fry mindset to have assistants who you think will be good head coaches some days not former ones that can't get a head job any where anymore like we do at Iowa.

Some of us have been campaigning for staff change for 5 years now, someone will have to die or call it quits before Fran pulls the trigger....not going to happen any time soon.

Sherm already said he can't wait for next year so he isn't hanging it up yet.

Hayden always said he wanted assistants who wanted to be head coaches because they had more drive. Hard to argue with his coaching tree.

Yeah Fran seems so likely to listen to his assistants. Yeah that's the solution hire assistants Fran isn't going to listen to anyway.

I agree with this and I also think it is time for some fresh perspectives, but probably not going to happen. People are too comfortable and in a competitive environment that is not a positive IMO.
