Hope the new coach can retain Spurlock and Gatens. Eldridge has been out spoken and Sherm just needs to retire. Will be interesting to watch the new staff when a coach is hired.

Why not give Matt Gatens an interview for the HC job, he's young and an Iowa guy?
I wonder what the Buyout is for the Assistants? I'm sure Fran will give some of his given he is an incredible human being.

I doubt any new coach would keep both unless it’s like Jensen situation with promotion within. I’d only give leg up to gatens because of his ties to the program. Besides the inexperience Lick was criticized for no one on staff who had familiarity with the state and program then made even worse with really no connection to AAU for recruiting. Fran got Bowen then speraw then gatens. Dillard was supposedly guy with AAU connections, however he’s the coach on the bench I’ll miss the least.
Gatens to Drake. When the new coach invariably fails to exceed low expectations in 4-5 years he can be the next coach in.
Why would the new coach necessarily even want the old staff who they have no connection to? Whomever it ends up being will bring/choose their own.

Speaking of haven’t heard anything about recruits. Hopefully it’s a wait and see approach on who the next HC is. As most of us remember saw Fran kept 2 of the 4 Lick players and brought basabe with him making it a solid 1st year class. Built a solid foundation for him. Speaking of here is who devries has coming in. If hired here assume no chance kid from WV follows. 4* G Iowa was one of about 15-20 schools to offer.

I would think Matt would make an attractive choice to keep around for either of the potential coaches. Or Matt might want to start working his way up if he could find an opportunity at a lower level. My bet he stays a Hawkeye if the new coach wants to keep him onboard.
