Associated Press Top 100 Football Programs

Without looking at the list, I have to assume the top 5 are:

Michigan
USC
Notre Dame
Alabama
Oklahoma

Yeah, but a storm is brewing. So the clown faithful think they are headed to the top five soon.

Iowa pre-flight #93? BS!

In the Seahawks three seasons from '42-'44 they went 7-3, 9-1 and 10-1

Their loss in '43 was a 14-13 loss at Notre Dame and the loss in '44 was a 12-7 loss at Michigan.

This Iowa Pre-Flight thing is fascinating. They played for 3 seasons and racked up 18 points in this AP Poll. In Iowa State's 124 year history they only managed 40 points and are only ahead of powerhouses Rutgers and Vanderbilt as far as P5 teams are concerned.

Had to Wikipedia the Iowa pre flight thing. Never heard of it. Fascinating though.

Yep according to this list isu would rank below all the teams in the Big Ten including Rutgers and Maryland. For this years schedule even Miami of Ohio has more respect.

So much for their bogus SOS argument from isu grads. But it won't even slow them down in clinging to their long held myth.

Ya but this stat doesn't take into affect Sagarin's SOS and enrollment size so what can it really tell you about football?

Pretty sweet that Iowa is in the top 25 overall. Them 70s didnt do the program's prestige any favors. If we beat wisconsin this year and next we should surpass them

This pre-flight thing is really interesting. It'd be cool if they had merchandise out there. Love stuff like that

Kidding aside, are you familiar with the Iowa Pre-Flight story? It's interesting.

In all fairness the AP poll only started in 1936. ISU's real "power" years were when they were winning all those conference titles back in the teens.

"All those titles?" Do you mean their Missouri Valley Conference title in 1911? Or the MVC title in 1912 with victories over Simpson, Grinnell, Morningside, Cornell (IA) and Drake?

I'd never heard of Iowa Pre-Flight before this. I just read about them on Wikipedia. What an interesting footnote to college football history. Hell, they were one 14-13 loss to Notre Dame away from being national champs in 1943. Crazy.

And let's not forget, both of those were shared titles. They have never won an outright conference title.

Don't tell isu grads this they will ignore. No different than anything that shows isu to be isu. A core competency of isu grad is to simply refuse to believe isu is what the rest of the world can already see.

Never heard of Pre-flight either. Pretty interesting they played like 1 home game a year too

Nebraska # 6 ????
995d621e9201e4c505508b900a0166ec.jpg
- 4th all time in wins
- 5 National titles
- 43 conference titles which is an all time record
- 9 Outland trophy winners (all time record)
- 3 Heisman trophy winners
- Ranked in every single AP and coaches poll in the 90's. EVERY.SINGLE.WEEK
- 3 losses or less every single year for a 40 year span
- best winning percentage of all programs in the last 50 years.

Going to be hard pressed to find anyone that would keep Nebraska out of the top 6-7.

Just looking at the numbers a strong case can be made that the ISU administration has seriously frittered away too many resources on Cyclone football. At some point the program should have been de-emphasized and either dropped or gone the non-scholarship rout ala Drake. Just a serious amount of money flushed down the drain on that perennial loser.

At what point is the plug pulled? Maybe in all the upcoming conference realignment ISU will lose it's P5 status and the program will be shuttered like it should have been many years ago.

Ready for a fascinating factoid.

Between 1995-1999, Iowa State won 5 Conference games. In 2000, they won 5 Conference games.

Between 1990-1999, Iowa State won 12 Conference games.

Good lord, they were bad.
