Hi all,

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but a friend and I had a pretty intense debate over this subject this past week. I know it is hard to compare the two completely, but I simply said that if you compared the Iowa - Pitt game atmosphere to most if not all the NFL games this past weekend, you would be hard pressed not to come away saying that the Iowa game was WAY more visually appealing based on the atmosphere. Am I crazy, a homer, or am I correct. He said I was completely wrong. REALLY??? I am not saying that you could compare the college game to the Super bowl...but just take a regular season game and tell me if I am wrong.

GO HAWKS!!!!

In fairness, that was an abnormally good environment for the Pitt-Iowa game. In general I think night games have a lot more potential to have a special environment. It's hard to get the same feel out of an 11am game.

Anyway, I've been to a bunch of Broncos NFL games and when it's a big game they can have a good environment too. I'm biased because I'm so much more emotionally invested in an Iowa game so to me they are more special, but I don't think we should kid ourselves into thinking we are the only ones with diehard fans and a special environment.

If you post this question on an Iowa board most people will say college is better. I'm guessing if you go post this question on the Seattle Seahawks message board you will get different answers.

The one Packer game I went to wasn't all that special. Granted, we lost in an exceptionally boring game. The one score got loud enough, I guess. Had a different feel. Buffalo comes across on TV as having a pretty good crowd. KC and Seattle can bring the noise for sure.

I say top-level college crowds are more proactively encouraging, while pro games are more consumer-driven in their attitude.

Depends on the circumstances. I thought the Iowa vs Penn State 2009 game was the best game I've been too, but Denver at Arrowhead a couple years ago when KC started hot was a lot crazier than most Iowa games I've attended.

I only have a small sample size, though.

I completely agree. The fans are completely different when it comes to passion and cheering. The NFL has become too corporate...making the players and coaches less passionate for the game...IMO.

Was at the Vikings - Lions game last weekend. Boring as hell. College game is much more exciting IMO.

The problem with the NFL is they are pricing the middle class out of the games. The cheapest ticket right now you can buy for the Chicago game here in Seattle tomorrow is $141 plus fees. That's at Venue Kings I should say. Heard that on the radio last night.

The die hard fans can't afford to take their families to a game anymore. Each year I get a couple tickets thrown my way and I always give them away to friends.

Agree with the 2009 PSU game being the best game environment I have ever attended, that White Out was awesome and the fact that PSU started fast got the crowd in it early + PSU has the best student section I've ever seen during game day. Also, college football has the bands, which to me adds a lot to the game day environment which the NFL can't counter.

I think the atmosphere is better at college games, but I've grown to enjoy the gameday experience at NFL games more.

In college one loss is bigger to the season than it is in the NFL, so I feel there is more heart and passion from players in college for a regular season game. But the NFL Playoffs have a lot more riding on them, so those rival- if not outweigh college atmospheres pretty easily. Also student sections in college that are lively can really make the atmosphere better in college, combined with the band, fight songs and other traditions put college on top for me.

Only the very top fraction of a percentage of NCAA football players make it to the NFL. If you think for a second that they can get there without "heart and passion" you are 100% completely wrong.

You know what happens when you don't have passion? You turn into Lance Briggs and you quit.
