Ava Jones Medically Retired on June 7, 2024. Plus Other Updates on Her & Her Family

A story centering around Trey Jones. I don’t think I saw this one linked yet…

Nice story. The youngest son, Creek, had only minor injuries because Trey did his best to shield Creek, Ava, and his wife.

"...didn't know a stranger. If you needed help, he would help you. He grew into a great young man and a good father."

Trey Jones' organ donation included at least 5 major organs.

Some Cliff Notes:

In order to make it home, Amy & Ava took an air ambulance service, which allowed for Amy to remain laying down on a stretcher and bed throughout the trip.

"My right knee is still not the best, and my right arm is still not the best," Ava said.

Ava no longer wears a brace on her right arm but said she's battling a tremor in her hand. "It's just hard to stop it moving," she said. "Like, it moves all the time."

Ava's voice is also improving. She said it doesn't hurt to talk but she still struggles with finding words and forming sentences at times.

"It's not like it was back then, but it's stronger than it was," she said.

Ava isn't supposed to go back to school for at least 6 weeks.

When Ava learned Iowa would honor her basketball scholarship regardless of if she is able to be on the court: "It just made me feel awesome," Ava Jones said. "They're just so nice. I didn't mean for this to happen, obviously. The coaches talk to me a lot, call me, Facetime me. I am excited about Iowa. I'm glad I committed there."

Amy Jones said she's working toward returning to school herself this fall. She is the assistant superintendent of the Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 school district.

In order to achieve their short-term and long-term goals, the two said they will have to travel to Wichita multiple times a week for therapy. The drive is about an hour each way from their home in Nickerson.

42 year old husband and father, Trey, was selfless to the very end. He was an organ donor.

I can't remember where i watched it (I think maybe Hunter posted it) but the video at the hospital of Trey being taken down the hallway on the way to the organ donor surgery, was heart wrenching. Many from the hosppital and commnity came to stand along the hallway to honor him, as they wheeled Trey to the elevator. Then seeing Creek and Hunter say goodbye was hard to watch.

I have not seen any national tv coverage on Ava and her family's tragedy and may have missed it and have wondered if anyone had seen anything on it.

IIRC, they also wheeled Trey to a 2nd story skywalk so that people below, outside, could honor him.

From all reports, as the car was coming at them, Trey's main focus was to push his family members out of harms way.

Thanks, I just thought giving some of the other stories that gets national coverage, this should too, not that it really matters in the end.

Does anyone have the link to the honor walk? I can't imagine what the family has gone through...what a horrible nightmare. Sounds like a wonderful family.

I never said that I thought being an Iowa athlete made it more important than any other event like this. I suppose it made you feel better to make your stupid response though, so congrats.
Good post BGHAWK, seems like many on this board will quarrel with any post. The board has gone to crap with too many idiot posters.

Tylerl_28 attempts to go after posters all the time and simply looks like an idiot afterwards for doing so.

I am glad people like you 2 take a moment & speak up as opposed to just reading his nonsense and moving on.

Tyler28 is a prime example of why there is an ignore feature ….. why even engage?

It’s what he wants

Ava Jones shared this clip on her instagram story today.

She's been very active on social media (esp Instagram) the past few weeks, it's great to see. She posts about her girlfriend (who is a student athlete at Pitt) a lot as well as updates, fundraisers, etc.

Here is the link to honor walk for Trey Jones. The video is about 35 minutes long, fast forward to about 32:30 min mark.

It's in a private facebook group so I'm not 100% the link will work.

Stuff like this happens every day...just because she is an Iowa athlete doesn't make it more important than any other event like this.
This is an Iowa sports forum, so we discuss things and people related to Iowa sports. Hard to grasp?

That doesn't make the tragedies and hardships of others any less significant.

Don't be a dick.

Will she be on the basketball team if if just for moral support?
Yes, Iowa will honor her scholarship and she will be a member of the team regardless.

But her doctor said she should make a full recovery so all this pessimistic talk is making a lot of assumptions.

Got it, sorry to assume myself! It does seem many are assuming she won’t ever play tho and that’s been getting on my nerves. That def doesn’t include you tho.
