Awesome read on Nelson Brands

Hmmm.... that's funny. North Carolina is mentioned as a possible. I wonder what poster revealed that information?

Lol "You don't apologize for winning. It's ok to be the best."
I can't believe that teacher made Nelson do that in front of the class.
Teachers get a lot of respect and praise as a profession, but they also have a big responsibility to get it right.
This teacher probably thought she was being cute and teaching a life lesson. I can't stand teachers like that. Just stick to the subject matter, leave the preaching to the parents.

Nebraska!?! I'm going to have to root against Terry's kid in a match against Iowa? My head might explode.

I think I read somewhere that Tom also has a son. If so, anyone know about how old the kid is and if he is wrestling somewhere?

Agree, sure kids need to realize that at some point you might not win, but to do that to a kid is just bs.

I'm sure they just listed schools he has received interest from. I think we can avoid the usual freak out.

Nebraska makes since. Manning was one to Terry's coaches in Athens, and Tram is still close with the family even in UNC. Thought Air Force was in there also. Still think he's a Hawk.

Champ. Round 1 - Nelson Brands (Iowa City, West) 51-1 won by tech fall over Elliot Pohlmeyer (Johnston) 36-14 (TF-1.5 3:07 (28-13))

seems like 454 take downs or whatever is pretty reasonable

Seems like 600 would be pretty reasonable. Don't see a lot of kids keep that pace even if its a against lesser competition.

Really liked the article on Nelson. Kind of cool that he is a clown. Terry had to make it out and succeed on his own (along with Tom). It must be nice for Nelson to have somebody who has been there, done that, with the ability to learn from his mistakes. I think Terry looks at the situation and sees an opportunity for his son not just to enjoy wrestling but life itself without always having to think of the next match.

B.S. with the teacher...kids will either learn to accept failure/mediocrity or they won't. Don't hustle them towards it.

Huh? Nebraska makes next to no sense.

Yes it does. Manning is a good coach and he and Terry don't hate each other. Terry would probably feel very comfortable having Nelson wrestle for Nebraska to reach his full potential if he didn't want to wrestle for Iowa. Not saying it's gonna happen. I think Nelson goes to Iowa.

Also, if memory serves me right wasn't Terry an assistant coach at Nebraska for at least one year back around 2000 - 2001?

That's nice but we're gonna need to have him lose to Lara in the Finals so that Fort Dodge can beat SE Polk in the team race.

Thanks. :)

Heard some people yelling the kid was backing out. Is that Carver West? ;)

Terry and Tom incognito. Evans, well...just looked normal

FD was my pick to win but their 106 quiting their team won't help. They qualified his backup but Ayala had a realistic shot at the top 5. I don't understand some of the kids these days.

I found both articles about Terry and Tom's sons pretty good. It was interesting that both did not push wrestling on to the kids. It resulted in Nelson starting wrestling at a much older age (6th grade) and Tommy trying wrestling for a while and then deciding to do other activities in fine arts. Very impressed with how they handled their boys and their activities!

At first I thought hey heres a perfect story to point out how kids don't need to wrestle at a young age to be an elite level. Then I stopped a realized that not every kid has that kind of gene pool, plus gets to roll around with guys like ramos, Metcalf, Sorenson, the bull, kemdawg, etc etc. So maybe this isn't such a good way to say hey look you don't need to wrestle young.

Why would he quit? Grades? Not fitting in?

I was under the impression he was either hurt or sick.

But yeah with him in the lineup, they would've been an even bigger threat to SE Polk.

I think Teasdale started wrestling in around 5th or 6th grade.

Apparently some issues there. Don't want to say too much but it's nothing criminal. Be surprised if we see him back again next year. Not fitting in is probably the best description.

He had a concussion midway through the season and had weight issues after that. Quiting the team wasn't for those reasons though as far as I know.

FD has a good young team. Next year they'll only lose one place winner (T. Lara). They get back Bennett (Jr), Teske (Jr), C. Lara (Jr), Lockner (Jr) and Ross (So). They'll also have qualifiers back in Licht (So), Franklin (Jr), Smith (So) and Cowell (Fr). If those guys develop, they should be a favorite to win it all in 2018.
