Axios: Republicans are becoming more working class and a little more multiracial. Democrats are becoming more elite and a little more white.

What's happening: Democratic strategists say the party's biggest vulnerability is assuming that the priorities of progressive activists are the same as those of working-class voters.

This falls under the “no shit Sherlock” category for me. If 95% of the press, buzz, exposure, etc. that the Democrat party should be shaping focused on real solutions for big problems the middle class cares about (e.g. expanding healthcare, choice, taxes, etc.) vs. edge case causes that get way too much air time and attention, the Dems would be a hell of a lot better off.

The GOP is just as stupid and distracted with their book bannings, grooming BS, school board takeovers, etc. - but they're just slightly better at on point messaging and manipulating their base. And it shows in elections.

More from the article:

Reality check: Suburban districts still make up the majority of congressional battlegrounds, and the GOP’s Trumpified brand remains a threat to limit their gains.

  • Republican candidates holding extreme views on abortion or echoing Trump’s election lies are still toxic in the suburbs.
  • Since the Supreme Court’s abortion ruling, Democrats have made small gains in national polls.
The bottom line: The GOP is trading soccer moms for Walmart dads.

Hispanics are conservative, and are figuring out dems are not. They know what happens when socialist policies are implemented (the reason they ended up coming here), and socially they tilt conservative as well. Strongly pro life so the dems recent extreme liberal positions on abortion aren't playing well.

They aren't against legal migration either, which is a likely flaw in the dems calculus of their favor with Hispanics.

As the "racist" and "xenophobic" talking points continue to lose their luster as they're seen for what they are (empty), Hispanics will continue to break more evenly across parties.

Dems would be wise to marginalize the left, which would pull in some independents (the left would in the end still vote dem, just like the extreme right votes republican).

The extreme right IS the Republican Party at this point….all moderates are/have been removed….just look at Kinzinger and Cheney….20 years ago those two would have been shining stars of the GOP…

Yep. RINO is something to be proud of at this point. Sadly it may not win elections because the Republican Party has gone full MAGA, but I’d at least be able to sleep at night. I’m sure Liz and Adam will do just fine in the private sector.

Excellent point, I didn't detail that. That's why the shift has been slow, in many cases over the course of a generation. The immigrants of the 90s who spoke Spanish are having kids who are fluent in English and dialing in to current events/politics more and more. First generation immigrants are less likely to learn the language, and IF they ever achieve voting rights they are likely to be influenced by opinion of others, since they don't understand much of what's being said by the candidates themselves in their language, if they even care.

Remember, these aren't really monumental shifts, they just add up. For example, if 8 in 10 Hispanics voted dem in one election, and 3 change their mind for the next one, that's a massive impact, even though it's now just a 50/50 split.

Messages like "racist" and "xenophobe" play well with uninformed voters, because taken at face value, whoever the other option is MUST be a better person than that.

As the population becomes more informed, the split between D and R is going to be more even among hispanics.

Is there going to be another party switch? Republicans are now about the lower and middle classes and care about racial equality? Democrats are for the rich and white people?

Funny how the actual policies endorsed by each party reflect the opposite.

A much simpler theory than thewop's fan fiction:

White people aren't the only people capable of being deplorable. Blacks, Hispanics and everyone else can be deplorable too. Republicans during their current Trump/MAGA/Q era that is non stop anger, resentment, grievances and conspiracies are going to pick up the deplorable people, regardless of skin color.

The problem for the Democrats is that the old people running the Democratic party don't even engage with incessant Republican party and Fox News media propaganda, they cede narratives when it comes to the culture wars to the Republicans. They're not even on the playing field.

The old Democrats want to run on prescription drug reform or adding a dental benefit to Medicare. They're just clueless. That's the problem.

The Democrats have two issues for November that should be sure winners for them (guns and abortion) that they should be pounding day after day the way the Republicans do with bullshit like "woke elites" and CRT, but the old Democrats every instinct is to downplay or avoid altogether those types of issues. Infuriating.

LOL. It's more uninformed, not informed. As more people become exposed to messages that appeal to the worst in them and the Dems don't even try to engage those messages the Dems probably are going to lose more voters in historically Democratic constituencies.

Your flaw is that you view this as dem=good, r=evil. That's simply not an informed or objective view of reality.

Oh please. My whole point here is that the problem for Dems is that they allow Republicans to create narratives about the nature of Republicans v Democrats without even responding or engaging. They cede the field to the made up Republican bullshit about what Democrats are about.

On this supposedly super-liberal board who are the liberals being all super woke and elite and everything like the caricatures created by Republican media? It's always the cons that want to talk about and obsess about this stuff, not liberals.

It's anything but (empty). Steve King lives on in Louie Gohmert and the great replacement theory/Jews will not replace us theme is stronger in America now than at any time since WWII.

Extreme Democrats are the party of white people that feel guilty for being born.

can’t stand anything about the history of the country or the future of the country. Tear down and cancel anything that they don’t agree with.

I enjoy talking to anybody but an extreme lefty is somebody I just avoid or keep the conversation to the generic topic of today’s weather.

Really...seems to me the D's engage all the time. Maybe a lot of folks don't like the message.

It's always about "messaging" with the D's..."we have to do a better job of getting our message out". Maybe parts of the "message" are the problem. Maybe heed internal polling instead of going to twitter for messaging tips...

Wouldn't it be nice if they evolved towards something more useful then, like a legit workers/labor party? Marry that with being libertarian on people's personal lives and you might have something.

Democrats have to deal with twice the amount of issues Republicans do - facts and alternative facts while Republicans only deal with alternative facts.

Messaging, lol.

That seems to be the D mindset.....trouble is the folks they have to attract (independents) ain't buying it.

Extreme messaging is a bad thing either way. IMHO, the Dems let the loony tunes hold the megaphone too long. Somebody needs to rip it away when the bathroom stuff comes up and say, "yo, c'mon - let's get back to our healthcare agenda." I know if I'm a GOPer, I'd want to take the megaphone away from the groomer loony tunes as quickly as possible when they pipe up.

And I get you can't control everything. The "messaging" is often organic thanks to multiple factors. However, there are people and organizations that get paid beaucoup $$$'s to shape, form, and manage messaging they can control. The Dems need this help. The GOP has taken a hit thanks to MAGA derp, but they're still better.

Dems haven’t become more elite, they just appear that way as the GOP has rejected Jindal’s admonished them to “stop being the stupid party” and have instead fully embraced not just the stupidity, but the crazy.

have you ever actually met a person who fits this description? i haven’t. literally nobody has ever voiced to me that they hate the country or felt guilty for being white.

people on both sides of politics want to change the future of the country but perhaps you just don’t like the people who disagree with your vision of the future?

Prime example of the effects of Republican/rightwing propaganda. The imaginary Democrats in his head.

Didn't the Dems just hire a TV producer to run Congressional hearings?

One of the top reasons I saw from polling that Hispanics were voting republican was that they saw who signed their government covid checks. Believe it or not that really worked.
