I see that Liam Robbins was just named B1G Player of the Week. I think Garza might have gotten the award earlier this year, but it seems to me that with the numbers he's putting up and the wins the team gets, he could practically win the award every week, like Gustafson did for the women. Does anyone know how many times Luka has gotten this award?

I don't know the answer to that question..someone surely will, but I think you've brought up an interesting topic. That is, the current culture in our country/society......I have already heard multiple talking heads mentioning other players for POY even though their numbers or accomplishments aren't as good as Luka's. It's almost like they're board with Luke Garza POY and want to talk about someone else. I don't mind, and I certainly think it's fair, to have people talking about other guys in consideration.....but it is almost like they are doing it from a standpoint of WANTING it to be someone else instead of objective analysis....or because of boredom..etc.....just a thought, not based on research.

Just like last year? Such ridiculous BS he didn't get naismith. Not sure if it has to do with culture, I think the game has changed and big men just generally aren't as respected and valued like they used to. He's the best in country by a bit but let's be honest, him running up court is a little painful to watch. I think there's a bias towards players that are faster, can jump higher, and are more graceful....like obie

Garza is the best player in the country just like Lebron has been the best player in the NBA. Lebron doesn't win the MVP every year and Garza won't win the POTW every week. He will win the POTY if everyone else pulls their weight and the team succeeds.

Over the last 4 games Luka has had to work a LOT harder for his points and the last game was the first since Gozaga where he shot 50%. Prior to this he was hitting around 70% while dominating lesser competition. Since the B1G began teams have been doubling and sometimes tripling Garza early and hard. Given the choice of giving up a sure 30 to Luka or hobbling him and taking their chances with Iowa's shooters, they've chosen the latter so far. That will impact Luka's numbers and make it imperative that the other players make them pay. Until that happens in a significant way, the strategy will be to swallow up Luka on every play.

Yes, last year he should have won, pathetic. And he received so many accolades, it felt like he DID win (but didnt of course). So this year, the "media" are in search of a shiny new toy.

You may be right. Watching the Rutgers/MSU game tonight(ugly game, btw), they were talking about Miles Johnson vs Garza and said that Garza didn't have a "monster game." I guess everyone routinely scores 25 points against a ranked team in a road game situation. How high have they raised his bar?

He blows as a human being then

You mean because he's a devoted husband and father and gives millions back to the communities he plays in? Or are you referring to the school he helped found for at-risk underprivileged students? He's done so many horrible things it's hard to pick.
