Attached is a link to a site that let's you simulate the rest of the B1G basketball season and figure out how the seedings of the upcoming conference tournament might play out. You just pick who you think is going to win each remaining game. The team listed in red is the current favorite in that matchup with the team on the left of each pairing being the visiting team. When you've made your selections, just hit the Calculate Seeds button at the bottom of the first page and the results will open up on a new page.

Warning: It can be a bit addictive, especially if you are having a slow work day. It has everything current through last night's games.

I think I'm more surprised that Iowa is favored in all but 2 matchups. Metrics love this team.

I always wait until two weeks out to mess with it. It becomes a major time suck.

I wouldn't worry about where Iowa will end up in the Big Ten Tournament. Fran is 4 and 11 at either Chicago or Indianapolis. It doesn't matter who Iowa will play against, there's a 100% chance that they will either lose the first game or win the first game and lose the second.
I know, it appears to be a knock on Fran, but 2 other coaches at Iowa had a worse BTT record, although with less games played.

I do think you must throw out the few years as he took over a basement team with little talent,
but the last few yrs Fran is what Frans record says it is

The first few years he actually went 3-3, his record in the BTT has gone downhill from there. Has never won more than 1 game at the tournament.

is it bad luck?
lack of talent?
or is it Frans game coaching?
or Frans offense 1st strategy?

Speaking of the BTT, remember Todd saying he always packed 4 suits because he planned being there all 4 days? He must’ve had dinner reservations planned at really nice restaurants, Fri-Sun

You might want to recheck your numbers...in the first 3 years Fran was 2 and 3 and after 4 years he was 2 and 4. Fran has never obtained a 500 record in the BTT.
March 10, 2011 Iowa 61/Mich St. 66 0-1
March 8, 2012 Iowa 64/Illinois 61, March 9, 2012 Iowa 75/MSU 92 1-2
March 14, 2013 Iowa 73/NW 59, March 15, 2013 Iowa 56/MSU 59 2-3
March 13, 2014 Iowa 62/NW 67 2-4
It only gets worse from there...

Maybe it's time for a change in strategy when approaching the preparation for tournaments. Didn't Ferentz make some positive changes in his approach to bowl games?

My only question is - Why are we behind MSU if we tie in the standings? Doesn't head to head mean anything?

Lots of teams lost to MSU those years

It really hurt Iowa‘s chances for the double bye with Rutgers winning last night. Now it will take either Iowa winning out or Rutgers getting upset at home against PSU.

I agree. Unlikely RU loses to PSU at home. Iowa must win out to become the 4th seed. It needs to win at least one of the last two to avoid the dreaded 8/9 game. OSU, MI and IA are all faced with winning out if they hope to get the double bye. Since each of the three have one game with each other left it is going to be difficult for any of them to go two and zero the last two games.

I'd almost rather have the 8/9 game than wind up a 6 and have to get through Purdue or Illinois. I know Wisconsin is the champ and all but I think Iowa matches up better against Wisconsin than they do Purdue or Illinois.

But Iowa winning one of these 2 road games would be HUGE for their tournament resume.

My plane gets to Indy at 1030am Thurs. should be fine, but I’d prefer to stay away from the 8/9 game😜

If Iowa goes 0-2 to finish, a Michigan win at OSU Sunday would somehow put Iowa the 7 seed according to the simulator

Bizarre but very unlikely path for Michigan to get the 4 seed:

RU beats PSU
Michigan beats Iowa and Ohio State
Ohio State loses to Michigan State and Michigan
Iowa loses to Michigan and beats Illinois
Michigan State beats Ohio State and loses to Maryland

Seedings would be:
Michigan 4 (12-8, win the round robin 3-1)
Rutgers 5 (12-8, 2-1 in round robin)
Iowa 6 (12-8, 0-3 round robin)

Michigan State 7 (11-9, defeated Ohio State)
Ohio State 8 (11-9, lost to Michigan State)

Based on this year’s Big Ten, that’s probably how this goes down

If Iowa wins out and IL loses out, Iowa finishes no lower than 3rd.

The NCAA committee is not going to be kind to Iowa unless they pick up at least one more QUAD 1 win. If they don't, it's gonna be 8/9 game with Arizona or Gonzaga awaiting the lucky winner...

On the other hand, they've got the games ahead of them to work themselves up to a #5 or even a #4 with a deep BTT run.

To be clear I'm referring to the seeding in the BTT.

Understood. Not really making a counter point, just thought your post would be a good one to add my 2 cents to. Iowa ending up 8/9 in BTT means they're still stuck with one QUAD 1 win, so Wisky would be their only hope of picking up at least 1 more. I personally would rather get that resume builder this week.

Sure, but last night, two of the three results required for the oddball Michigan #4 seed scenario did not happen. Also, Illinois cannot fall below the #3 seed now after holding off Penn State.

Iowa wins on Sunday: Iowa is #4.
Iowa loses, Ohio State wins: OSU is #4.
Iowa and Ohio State both lose, Rutgers wins: Rutgers is #4.

Congrats on the big road win! I think you have a great shot at a #6 or higher NCAA seed with at least one more win.

I'd add 1 more scenario to that, if Iowa, Ohio State, and Rutgers all lose then Iowa is still the 4

Iowa will just have to win Sunday. Either way, still have to win Friday to play on the weekend.
;)

I get the importance of history, however this a different Iowa team against a different B10 slate….so seeding and matchups matter more maybe?
